Chapter 120
Kaia's POV
“You didn't tell me you have a twin brother.” I said and Kieran frowned. He didn't have to say it, but he probably thinks I lost my mind after what happened today at the meeting.
“Twin brother?” He asked, making himself more comfortable on the bed, taking my hand in his, caressing it gently, sending familiar sparks down my spine.
"I know what happened today was scary," he started, his voice soft like he didn't want me to take it the wrong way, making Lylah snort loudly. "But I'm certain I'd know if I have a twin brother."
If the situation wasn't so serious, I'd laugh about how he was talking to me like I suddenly became a child who couldn't tell the difference between what she saw and what she was making up.
“Ok, maybe not twins but brothers. That is the only explanation I'm willing to accept.”
He took a deep breath, dropping my hand on my leg as he ran his hand through his hair. He was trying not to hurt me, and I understood that but he really was going to listen to me no matter how unreasonable I was sounding.
Everyone knew that the first child of the Alpha was going to inherit the position after his father's stepping down, so a brother really…especially one that looks older, doesn't make sense.
“Kieran baby, I love you…” I started again, and his frown deepened. "Is it something I said? I'm sorry." He apologized smoothly before I could continue my rant.
“I know it sounds crazy, and I'm probably overreacting but he really looked like you…his eyes especially.”
He paused, "what are you talking about?”
Clearing my throat dramatically, it was the way I was choosing to handle the traumatic experience. Being held like by Aiden had me thinking about everything I went through. Pretending it didn't happen…which wasn't healthy was my way of dealing with it.
I narrated everything that happened in the restroom, from the mysterious man, to Aiden and Kieran's fist clenched as I spoke.
“Bella, can you describe this man for me? Was there anything that came off as weird? Is he an Alpha?” His voice was calm, but it was obvious he was having a hard time keeping it that way.
Nodding my head, I described everything I could remember about the man. Starting from his weird smile, his eyes, his height, all his features.
"And there was a scar on the side of his face. I don't think he's an Alpha, but he said something along the lines of…’you can say that I am’ even though there was nothing that gave off an Alpha's authority.”
Kieran stood up from the bed, and began pacing, and I felt his anger rise up within me. Instead of waiting for him to calm down alone, I stood up from the bed, wrapping my arms around him and his body relaxed.
"I'm okay, baby. It was scary, but you saved me.”
He shook his head, "if I'd come earlier, we would have caught the man behind the shootings.”
My entire body froze, before my hand around him dropped to my side. "What are you talking about?” I asked him.
"The scar you said was on his face was the same thing the shooters we caught described.” He explained. "and you said he knew your name…apart from Allie, Dylan and Ryder, the only other person that knows your name is your ex mate.”
This was a lot to take in at once, I had been so close to the leader of the shooters…to death and I didn't know. Taking a seat, I waited for everything to sink in.
But now that I know who he really was, a lot of things made sense.
“T-that’s why I couldn't mind-link you and you couldn't smell me for a while. He must have something to do with it." My voice trembled a bit.
It made me remember the last thing he said about being able to mindlink my mate. But how was he able to enter the Alphas' meeting which was supposed to be very secure.
We took a shower together, and I made sure to wash him properly. We didn't spend as much time as I would have wanted, but we'll make up for it when I wasn't hungry.
Once breakfast was done, we went to the office, when everyone else was waiting for us. Different expressions on their faces. Caleb and Dani were worried as expected, they were the only ones who had no idea what happened. Ryder and Allie were harder to read, but with how far they were sitting from each other, I was certain something happened and I was definitely drilling both of them for details.
“Good morning, Alpha, Luna." They chorused.
There was no time to waste, so Kieran got straight into the details after responding to their greetings. Their jaws dropped as he spoke, their eyes darting to me and then back to Kieran.
“That's fucking insane! How the fuck did he get inside?" Caleb asked, anger flashed through his eyes and his face twisted into a scowl.
“Are you okay, Luna?" Dani asked instead, placing a hand over Caleb's knees, calming him down.
“I'm okay…he didn't do anything except…” I paused, "he said I was supposed to be his."
Kieran's fist tightened as he pulled me closer to him and inhaled my scent. “What does that mean?" I asked.
“That he's a fucking son of a bitch who wants what he cannot have.” Kieran's voice, more deeper, replied. King.
As they continued to voice out their thoughts about what he meant, I felt like I was forgetting something. Apart from how he spoke so confidently about me being his, it felt like he knew much more. But even with Nessa, I barely told her anything.
“There she is, I've been waiting to see her.” His voice rang in my head.
"Guys!” I called, but they didn't hear me. "Guys!” I repeated, this time, my voice higher and they stopped talking and looked at me.
I took a deep breath. "He knows about Lylah.” I said and the silence that followed was deafening.
