Claimed By The Lycan King (Kaia) novel Chapter 119

Chapter 119

Allie's POV

“Laura?"

“Laura! Of all people, the moon goddess chose her to be his mate!" I thought. “She was one lucky girl but thank fuck she was dumb as well."

I wasn't sure how I felt about her being his mate and that they had something together but I had a situation with Dylan also which he knew about. Laura was just a different person, with everything she did to pull Kieran and Kaia apart.

But apart from that, Rhea was convinced we should totally give him a second chance…and even though I agreed with her after she gave me several reasons why it was a good idea and I also wanted to but I didn't want it to be because Dylan was no longer here and I needed someone to fill the space he left.

Holding out was difficult, especially when he was doing everything for me and looking like a snack while doing it.

Even as we walked into the Alphas’ meeting, my arm in his, I couldn't help but steal glances at him. He was holding me like a sort of prized possession even with Kieran just a few steps away from us.

“It's hard not to fall for him!” Rhea cooed.

“Tell me about it.”

Once we were inside the hall, a weird smell hit me. It wasn't that strong but it smelled really good but it was gone almost immediately so I didn't think too much about it.

I unlinked my arm from Ryder as I made my way to the food table…don't blame me, the first reason I was here was to rub my beauty in their faces and then to eat until I could barely move…not a good idea but it was a plan.

Ryder followed behind me, not saying anything. “You don't have to follow me." I told him.

He shrugged, “I want to."

The first thing I went for was the dessert. The meeting had not fully started, but I didn't trust them not to finish it.

"Them? As in you?” Rhea teased.

"It's not my fault I have a great appetite.” I replied as she snorted.

In no time, the first plate was gone and Ryder was giving me another one. "I'm sure they think I'm a glutton.” I said, this time, out loud and his head immediately jerked to the girls staring at me with a shocked look on their faces.

"They're just jealous they can't eat well like.” he replied, shooting a glare in their direction. I collected the plate from him, offering him a part of it which he refused.

We both heard as Kieran was called up for a speech and with the bored look on his face, no doubt Kaia was wearing a similar one. Being around the two of them has a way of pushing me more into Ryder’s arms, hence the reason we…I chose to stay far away from them. I'd see them on the dancefloor or the way back home.

“You look amazing, Princess!” Dylan's familiar voice sounded behind me and when I turned, he was standing there…the same smell I perceived earlier coming from him, but not as strong.

“Dylan!" I called, throwing myself into his arms. “I totally forgot you'd be here."

“Trust me, I didn't know I'd be here either." He replied, and his hand loosened around me. He greeted Ryder, whose face was expressionless.

“How have you been?"

He thought about it for a few minutes before saying he missed being in the Pack. “I'm going to go talk to Alpha Kieran, there's something I need to tell him….and stop torturing the boy and yourself already.” He whispered the last part, but I wondered why he even bothered if Ryder could hear everything.

Ryder became relaxed and the three of us spoke about everything and nothing in particular until Kieran was done with his speech, and Dylan left, leaving me, a now empty plate and Ryder.

“This was nice…I don't think I have it in me to have another one.” I said, but he didn't respond. Instead, his eyes stared at me intently and a shy smile appeared on my face.

“What's wrong? Is there something on my face?" I managed to ask.

He nodded, and my eyes widened in embarrassment. “Where?" I asked, trying to touch everywhere on my face. “I knew I should've stopped at one plate!"

Rhea snorted, “like a crumb of cake on your face could stop you."

Instead of replying, he reached for me, his thumb slowly wiped away the crumbs…probably cream from my face and immediately his hand touched me, my knees weakened and my eyes snapped up to meet his gaze.

“Done." He said, but I couldn't bring myself to do anything…move, as the feeling of his hand remained on my skin. His eyes didn't leave mine either.

I have to be the most confused girl in the history of Lycans.

That moment was cut short when an annoying voice spoke up. “Don't you guys look cute? Was she the reason you left in a hurry two days ago?” Laura's voice asked and both Ryder's and my eyes jerked towards her with different expressions in them.

Disbelief was written in mine while he looked confused as he turned to face me.

"I swear, nothing happened." He said, “That's the day I told you that she came around." He explained.

After a while of just staring at each other and nothing was said, instead a look I'm sure wasn't associated with the excitement of finding a mate appeared on his face as he stared at me.

But before I could ask why, Ryder's worried voice filled my head, “why are you with Aiden?"

Whatever strings that were drawing me towards him were broken in an instant. The only Aiden I knew was not only Dylan's Alpha, but also Kaia's former mate who put her through hell.

The moon goddess was cruel…evil! She gave me about sixty seconds of happiness about finding my mate before destroying it.

I didn't think too much about the next words that came out of my mouth. “I, Allison Blackwood, of Moonstone Pack, reject you, Aiden Wilder, as my mate.” Tears poured down my face as I spoke.

I wasn't crying because I was sad or anything…I never had expectations for my mate, all I wanted growing up was Ryder but at the same time I was hoping for a different reaction from the person the moon goddess thinks would love me unconditionally for the rest of my life.

He accepted the rejection and was gone after getting over the sharp pain that came with rejection.

My legs gave way but Ryder was there to catch me before I reached the ground.

“It's okay, Princess. I'm right here." He assured me, wrapping his arms around me.

"I'm cursed,” I cried. "Why can't I be happy?”

"You're not cursed, we just live in a cursed world." He replied.

I nodded and leaned closer into him as he murmured reassuring words to me. Rhea had gone silent and I let her be.

"You're going to leave me again, everyone always does.” I said after a while and his arms tightened around me.

He shook his head, "I made that mistake once, princess. It's never going to happen again." He said. “And we can talk about that lat–”

"Prove it to me.”

"What?”

"One chance…to prove that you mean it."

What do I have to lose?
