"Sir? What do you think about the terms of the contract?"
The question broke through the mess that was Gareth's mind. His employees were all looking at him expectantly. He'd completely forgotten he was in the middle of an important meeting about one of the biggest deals his company was negotiating. As CEO, he should be the one running this meeting. Beta Kevin shifted uncomfortably from his spot at the conference table.
He couldn't focus on work or pack business today. All Gareth could do was think about Jasmine and the incredible night they'd shared. His thoughts were tangled around her like he'd been caught in barbed wire, and the more he tried to escape from them, the deeper they cut him.
During the whole day, he'd been preoccupied by his thoughts. The only thing on his mind as he went through his daily routine was Jasmine. The sound of her breathy moans, soft skin, and her searing gaze haunted him. He couldn't stop thinking about the way her tight, wet center squeezed his length or the look of unparalleled pleasure in her eyes as her body shook with an orgasm. Her floral scent was still in his nose, driving him wild with lust. Gareth had spent the day half-hard just from remembering their night.
His wolf didn't help matters. The animal kept prowling his mind, searching for her, wanting to bed her wolf again.
Gareth tried to move on from their remarkable night together. All of the reasons that Jasmine had pointed out as to why they couldn't make love again were valid. As the older and more experienced with relationships of the two, he knew that anything between them would probably end badly. Their lives were too complicated.
But even though the rational side of him knew that he couldn't spend another breathtaking night with her, that was all his body, soul, and wolf wanted.
After the meeting, Gareth went to his office, frustrated with himself for allowing his night with Jasmine to distract him from his many responsibilities. He looked up when Beta Kevin walked into the room.
"Maybe you should go home," Beta Kevin suggested gently. "Even the CEO deserves a day off once in a while. You can come back to work tomorrow when you're in the headspace to make the right calls."
Gareth bristled. As an Alpha, it was against his instincts to follow orders or even to leave early when there was work to be done. But his Beta had a point. He didn't want to make a mistake on one of the most important deals his company had ever been a part of.
"You're right," Gareth admitted and scrubbed a hand down his face. "But I can't go home. I'll just…catch up on some paperwork I've been meaning to get to."
Beta Kevin nodded and left him to it.
He couldn't go home. Not when Jasmine was there with her delicious scent, curvy body, and soft, warm skin.
For the rest of the day, he sat at his desk, not even daring to touch his paperwork. Not when he could only focus on the woman who had completely taken over his mind.
As the sun set, Beta Kevin drove him home. There was an annoying smile on his face that Gareth was trying hard to ignore.
"Michelle has a tutoring session today, doesn't she?" Beta Kevin said knowingly, making it apparent that he knew why Gareth had been distracted all day.
"Yes," Gareth replied through gritted teeth. His tone made it clear that he wasn't in the mood for his Beta's ribbing.
Kevin didn't know about their night together, but he could tell that his Alpha had feelings for Jasmine that were unlike anything he had ever experienced.
When he arrived home, Jasmine's sweet scent hit him before he even got out of the car. He didn't know why her scent was more potent to him now. Maybe it was because he had slept with her or because she had gotten under his skin in a way that he would never be able to reverse.
As he walked through the front door, he could smell her everywhere. It was like she had been in every corner of his mansion. In the front sitting room, she was on the couch, talking with Michelle. Gareth's hands clenched when he saw that Axel was with them. He sat in an armchair periodically, glancing at Jasmine with worry in his eyes.
Annoyance washed over Gareth as he glared at his nephew.
Michelle's green eyes were anxious, and she was biting her lip as she held Jasmine close, murmuring to her. It seemed like they were talking about Jasmine's kidnapping. When she spotted her father, Michelle leaped from the couch and ran to him.
With a note of satisfaction, Gareth noticed that Jasmine's face was red with embarrassment, and she couldn't seem to look him in the eye. Feeling slightly petty, Gareth had a sudden idea.
"Would you like to stay for dinner, Jasmine?" He tried to get her to look at him.
But to his complete surprise, Axel's face was shining with gratitude.
"I just wanted to thank you for saving Jasmine. I wish I could have been there to save her myself, but I couldn't make it…," he sighed. "I don't even want to think about what could have happened if you weren't there to rescue her. She would have been subjected to a fate worse than death!" Axel shook his head with revulsion. ""
"I didn't save Jasmine for you," Gareth growled, his eyes flashing with warning.
Axel raised his hands, not wanting a fight. "I know that. I just wanted to thank you." He blew out a long breath. "Jasmine and Isabella's kidnapping has deeply affected me. Just knowing that I could have lost them…it really makes you think."
Gareth's anger left as quickly as it arrived.
"Did Jasmine tell Michelle about what she went through?" Gareth asked, looking over his nephew's shoulder, worried about his daughter.
Michelle liked to put on a tough exterior, but deep down, she was very sensitive. Especially when it came to Jasmine. He didn't want his daughter to be exposed to the cruelty of the world so early.
"Nothing specific," Axel said. "But I could read the subtle cues on her face and her body language. And when she said the rogues gave her a different drug than Isabella, I knew that they'd injected her with an aphrodisiac." Axel's expression hardened. "I know how those assholes operate."
Gareth scowled. So, his nephew thought that he knew Jasmine so well, did he?
Axel continued to speak. "Uncle, other than thanking you, I actually called you here for something else."
"What is it?" Gareth asked warily.
"I'm going to ask Jasmine to be my girlfriend. I know that she's the woman for me. I want to start my life with her." Axel paused and then looked back at Gareth. "Do you think she will say yes?"
