Chosen By My Mate's Father-in-law novel Chapter 99

Gareth merely nodded at Axel, not even bothering to respond to him.

"I hope you have a fun night, Uncle Gareth," Axel said, then left to go back to his table.

To go back to Jasmine.

Gareth watched with narrowed eyes as his nephew handed Jasmine her drink with a kiss on the cheek. Axel whispered something in her ear, and she threw back her head to laugh, exposing her long, beautiful neck. Axel sat beside her and leaned in close to talk to her. They appeared to be a happy couple in love.

Gareth wanted to throw a champagne glass against the wall just to watch it shatter. He saw red, and it felt like a jealous monster was ripping his heart to shreds.

Just as he took a step forward, Delilah appeared in front of him. She was wearing a short sparkling gold dress with a plunging neckline. His brow wrinkled in distaste.

"Gareth, how lovely to see you," she purred and put a possessive hand on his arm. "Why don't you get me a drink, darling?"

Her touch and demanding tone made him bristle, but he stalked off to the bar to get her a drink, not wanting to cause a scene. Inwardly, he cursed this pestering woman. He handed her the flute of champagne and drained his glass, needing the alcohol to get through a conversation with her. Delilah leaned in conspiratorially toward him.

"So, why didn't you bring a date to such an important event?" she asked, then sipped her champagne.

"I usually don't have a date at these kinds of functions, Delilah," he answered through gritted teeth. "You know that."

"What about that girl I saw you kissing at the restaurant? I ran into her shopping for a goddess-awful dress. I thought that she would be your date."

Gareth's hand tightened around his champagne flute. If he wasn't careful, it would shatter.

"I guess this kind of event would be too…classy for someone as poor as her," Delilah continued.

His hands began to shake in anger, and he rounded on Delilah so fast that some of his champagne spilled over the rim of his glass.

"Why don't you shut your mouth for once in your life, Delilah?" he hissed, then left her standing there with her mouth open.

But she ran after him, her heels clicking as she went, and snatched his arm. Gareth turned around and narrowed his eyes.

"Gareth, I didn't mean any offense," she said. "I just think that you deserve a more dignified woman. Someone who wouldn't embarrass you at events like these." She raised her chin and looked into his eyes. "Someone like me. I'm the heiress of the Meadows family. I could be the woman you can be proud to have on your arm."

Gareth paused and stared at her hopeful face. How could he tell her to get lost in a way that wouldn't cause a public meltdown?

Delilah took his silence for interest. An excited smile bloomed across her face, and she moved closer to him, putting her hands on his chest.

"Care to dance with me?" she whispered, fluttering her eyelashes.

All Gareth felt was disgust, and he opened his mouth to tell her no. Then, his eyes slid over to the dance floor. First, he saw the sparkling of the diamonds of Jasmine's dress. Then, he noticed Axel's arms wound tight around her waist. Gareth's jaw clenched as he watched his nephew and Jasmine swaying, their bodies pressed closely together. Jasmine didn't even spare him a single glance.

"Alright." Gareth looked down at Delilah as spite flowed through him. "Let's dance."

Her eyes twinkled with excitement as she grabbed their empty champagne glasses and shoved them rudely at a server. Then, she practically dragged him to the dance floor. Gareth lightly put his hands on her hips, but Delilah eagerly laid her head on his chest and pressed him close.

As they danced, Gareth attempted to catch Jasmine's eye. He glared at Axel's hands on her lower back. His stomach stiffened with anger. How could Jasmine allow his nephew to hold her close when she was in Gareth's bed a mere week ago? How did she sleep at night?

Delilah began to chatter about something frivolous, but Gareth wasn't paying attention to a word she said.

When Axel leaned in closer to Jasmine, all of the blood in Gareth's body rushed to his head, and the room started to spin. Then, his nephew pressed his lips against Jasmine's.

Gareth wanted to tear this entire ballroom apart. He wanted to bring this world down. How could Jasmine kiss Axel right in front of him after the passionate night they shared?
