A hostess led the party of five through the crowded restaurant. Gareth noticed that she was trying to catch his eye, but he wasn’t interested. He only had eyes for Jasmine in that little red dress. Gareth’s eyes slid down to her black high heels as she walked across the hardwood floor.
His pants became tight with desire, and he chastised himself.
The hostess showed them to the best table in the house even though they didn’t have a reservation.
“Only the best for the Lycan King,” she murmured suggestively to him and batted her eyelashes.
“Thank you.” Gareth took a seat at the white-clothed, candlelit table.
Isabella sat between Elliot and Michelle, giving Jasmine no choice but to take the only empty seat next to Gareth. But that meant that she was sitting across the table from Elliot, something that Gareth didn’t like.
A server came over and handed them menus. As Gareth studied his, he kept one eye on Elliot. The young man was listening to Isabella as she talked about wedding plans. But every so often, Elliot’s eyes seemed to be pulled to Jasmine as if by a strong force. When Gareth glared at the young Alpha, Elliot’s face paled, and he quickly looked away. After that, he kept his attention on his future wife.
A grim smile crossed Gareth’s face. Elliot seemed to be rightfully intimidated by him. If he slipped up, Gareth had no problem correcting him again. Maybe if he broke a few of his bones, the boy would learn his lesson.
Everyone was served their drinks, and Jasmine kept her head down, focused on dipping her freshly baked bread in the oil on the table. Gareth watched her closely as he drank his glass of red wine. Interestingly enough, Jasmine didn’t look at Elliot once as they waited for their food. Was it possible for Jasmine to actually be over Elliot? Was she that strong to get over her mate so quickly? Gareth hadn’t even been that resilient after his mate disappeared.
As always, Isabella was oblivious to the tension around the table. His oldest daughter’s optimistic outlook was something that he greatly admired about her.
“I’m really proud of how well you’re doing with all your schoolwork, Michelle,” Isabella told her younger sister. “Our family is so lucky that we found you to help her, Jasmine. I don’t know what we would do without you.”
Jasmine and Isabella shared a smile, which made Gareth’s heart lift with joy.
But Michelle frowned at her sister. “You didn’t seem that interested in my education earlier when we were all in the backyard,” she muttered.
Isabella’s face went red, and she glanced at her father with a worried look. Gareth was about to ask what Michelle meant by that comment, but the server brought their food at that moment.
Soon, their table was filled with plates of delicious food. Jasmine had taken Isabella’s recommendation and ordered the lobster risotto. As soon as she took a bite, Jasmine let out a quiet moan of pleasure.
“It’s delicious,” Isabella answered with a smile, her face brightening from her fiancé’s interest in her. “Would you like to try some?”
“Yes, please.” Elliot grinned as she fed him a bite of her risotto.
The two looked at each other sweetly, and then Elliot fed her a long piece of spaghetti. The lovebirds reenacted the famous kiss scene from ‘Lady and the Tramp’, each of them eating one side of the spaghetti before meeting in the middle and sharing a romantic kiss.
Michelle mimed gagging into her lasagna. But it was good for Gareth to see his daughter’s face shining with happiness. Isabella had gone into a deep depression after her mother lef,t and he didn’t want anything to ruin his daughter’s happiness.
While Elliot, Isabella, and Michelle were distracted on the other side of the table, Gareth leaned over to Jasmine.
“Look at how happy Isabella is,” he murmured. “Don’t do anything to ruin my daughter’s relationship with Elliot. It will absolutely crush her.”
