Wilfred snapped out of his thoughts, meeting Karina’s eager gaze. Without hesitation, he nodded. “Sure, as long as it’s something you’ll enjoy.”
The two of them arrived at an escape room venue, where the receptionist greeted them warmly.
Karina asked curiously, “Hi, we’d like to play an escape room. What themes do you have?”
The receptionist smiled and began explaining, “We have a horror-themed ‘Midnight Fright,’ an adventure-themed ‘Lost Tomb,’ and a mystery-themed ‘Misty Manor.’ Each has its own level of difficulty and style.”
Wilfred looked at Karina. She thought for a moment before saying, “Let’s try ‘Lost Tomb.’ It sounds mysterious and fun.”
The receptionist nodded. “This theme is very popular, but it’s also quite challenging. Are you sure?”
Wilfred replied confidently, “No problem. We’ll go with this one.”
“All right,” the receptionist continued. “The ticket price for this theme is $30 per person. If you complete it within the time limit, you’ll even get a special gift from us!”
Karina’s eyes lit up. “Wow, there’s a prize! Now we definitely have to give it our best shot!”
She reached for her wallet to pay, but Wilfred was quicker, pulling out his phone to scan and pay. Karina looked a little embarrassed. “You can’t always be the one paying.”
Wilfred smiled. “When I’m with you, it’s the least I can do.”
After he paid, the receptionist handed each of them a wristband. “These are your entry wristbands. They include some basic hints and will also track your game time. Follow me, and I’ll go over the rules and guidelines before you start.”
After a detailed explanation, the two stood at the entrance of the “Lost Tomb” escape room.
Following her lead, Wilfred analyzed the symbols and the patterns around the lock. Together, they tried several combinations. After a few failed attempts, they finally heard the satisfying click of the lock opening.
Behind the door, a dimly lit corridor shimmered with eerie lights, beckoning them further into the challenge.
Karina eagerly stepped into the passage but nearly tripped over a hidden trench in the floor. Wilfred reacted quickly, grabbing her arm and pulling her securely into his embrace.
The momentum caused Karina to lean forward, her face just inches from Wilfred’s. Their eyes locked, and for a moment, time seemed to stand still.
Their breaths mingled in the confined space, the warmth in the air drawing them closer. Their lips were almost touching, as if the slightest movement would bring them together.
Wilfred’s Adam’s apple bobbed subtly, while Karina’s cheeks turned bright red. Her heart raced wildly, like a startled deer caught in the headlights.
