Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 375

Cynthia froze for a moment, unsure of how much Dominic had overheard of her conversation with Viola. An awkward smile crept onto her face despite herself.

Dominic regarded her with a blank expression, his voice low and even.

“So, you want to be my mistress?”

He had heard, after all.

Guilt flashed across Cynthia’s face. She forced a sheepish laugh. “Viola likes you, so she’s always seen me as her imaginary rival. I only said that to get under her skin. It was just a joke.”

Dominic’s gaze darkened a shade as he studied her.

“Should I compliment you on your talent for making things up?”

Cynthia shook her head quickly. “No need, really.”

She could almost feel a wave of irritation radiating off Dominic, so she hurried to change the subject.

“Mr. Holloway, I’ve brought all the documents you requested. Shall we discuss them in your office?”

As she spoke, Cynthia pulled the file from her bag and offered it to Dominic with both hands.

He glanced at the folder but didn’t take it. Instead, he turned on his heel and strode into the office.

Cynthia scrambled after him, launching into her presentation as she walked.

Dominic settled into his chair while Cynthia remained standing respectfully to the side, the epitome of a junior employee facing a stern boss.

When she finished her explanation, she stood quietly, waiting for Dominic’s response.

But Dominic still didn’t reach for the documents in her hands.

Just as Cynthia moved to set the file on his desk, Dominic raised a hand to stop her, his tone cool and detached.

“Are you sure you understand what’ll happen to Benedict once Holloway Enterprises’ audit team starts their investigation?”
