So what was the point of bringing Cynthia and Benedict’s wedding photo here today?
Viola suddenly felt completely at a loss for how to handle the situation.
Her mind flashed back to those days in the city, to the way Cynthia and Dominic acted around each other—always just a little too close, too familiar. She drew a sharp breath, an idea flickering to life.
“Nick, you knew she was engaged, and you still got involved with her?”
“So you’re okay being the other man?”
Dominic’s eyes darkened, his gaze turning frosty as he looked at Viola.
“And you dare to come waving this in my face without even bothering to get your facts straight? No wonder your family never really trusts you. Compared to your sister, you really can’t keep your cool, can you?”
His words cut deep. Viola felt the sting.
She had considered handing the photos to Miranda, letting Miranda confront Dominic herself. But the truth was, she couldn’t bear to throw away this rare opportunity to be alone with Dominic—even if it meant playing with fire.
If Dominic ended up resenting Cynthia over these photos, at least it would give Viola a reason to be part of his life. Maybe, just maybe, getting close to him would be easier.
She never expected things to spiral like this.
Dominic, of all people, was willing to be Cynthia’s secret lover.
What kind of hold did Cynthia have over him? How could she drag a man like him—someone so far above everyone else—down into the dirt?
Viola was seething, jaw clenched so tight it hurt.
“Nick, Cynthia doesn’t love you. She loves your family name, your pedigree—everything your status can give her.”
Dominic stared back at her, face unreadable. When he spoke, his voice was chilled steel.
“I think I know my own worth better than you do.”
He thought Viola would pick up on his irony, but she actually believed he was grateful, and started acting even more earnest.
“What?” Viola was stunned, thinking she’d misheard.
What did he mean—lying to him alone was enough?
Did he actually love her that much?
She stared at Dominic, horrified as the truth dawned on her. The realization sent a chill down her spine.
A man like Dominic—he was actually using Tremaine Holdings to force a woman who was about to marry someone else to stay with him.
Had he lost his mind?
He could have any woman he wanted. Why on earth did he have to choose Cynthia?
