When Benedict saw tears welling in her eyes, his attitude softened. Gently, he reached out and wiped away the tear at the corner of her eye.
“Janice, you knew what you were agreeing to when you chose to be with me,” he said quietly. “We set the rules from the start. I need you to remember them, especially now.”
Janice lowered her gaze, unable to hide the disappointment clouding her eyes.
She remembered how, when they first began this arrangement, Benedict had made everything clear: no matter what happened between them, their relationship could never spill over into Cynthia’s world.
To make up for what he couldn’t give her openly, Benedict promised Janice the best life money could buy—luxury, comfort, and full control over his assets.
And so far, he’d kept his word. She’d never wanted for anything; Benedict had always been generous, never letting her feel neglected.
At first, Janice thought she could accept this secret, sheltered existence. But then Giselle appeared, turning everything upside down.
Now, with Cynthia threatening to leave Benedict, Janice saw a glimmer of hope that she might finally take Cynthia’s place.
But Benedict never once considered leaving Cynthia. Not even for a moment. He never intended to bring Janice out of the shadows.
“Benedict…” Janice’s voice trembled as she raised her head, tears spilling down her cheeks. “Can’t you let Cynthia go?”
After everything Cynthia had done to him at that reunion, Janice thought he’d finally had enough. But he still refused to end things with Cynthia.
Benedict’s face hardened as he stepped back, putting distance between them. He walked over to his desk chair and sat down, his eyes cold and sharp as he looked at her.
“You’re being greedy, Janice.”
She couldn’t hold back anymore. Tears streamed down her face.
“I’m not the greedy one, Benedict. Cynthia’s the one who wants to leave you. If she’s leaving, then why—”
Benedict cut her off, clearly irritated.
“Cynthia is not leaving me. She’s just lashing out. Give it some time—she’ll come back, like she always does.”
He propped his feet up on the edge of the desk, leaning back in his chair and idly tapping his toes.
“She’ll have her hands full with other problems soon enough. She won’t have the time or energy to worry about VistaSphere Group.”
“Use this window to deal with any issues we’ve left behind.”
Benedict had already learned the latest about Tremaine Holdings from Viola.
Right now, there was no one Cynthia cared about more than Juliet. If something happened to Tremaine Holdings or Juliet, Cynthia’s attention would be consumed. She’d have no time to investigate VistaSphere Group.
By the time she realized what was happening, they’d have cleaned up every loose end.
Cynthia wouldn’t find a thing. And even if she did, she’d have no proof.
Seeing Benedict’s unwavering confidence, Janice felt her own anxiety settle. Still, she couldn’t help but remember that Viola had come to see Benedict alone earlier that morning. Her curiosity got the better of her.
