Even her uncle, who had been cooking the books for them, would never escape this mess.
Her aunt would get dragged into it too.
Every immediate relative of the Ormond family was staring down the barrel of a prison sentence because of all this.
Janice didn’t dare relax for a second.
As soon as she hung up the call, she rushed into the elevator and headed straight for Benedict's office.
She pushed open the door without knocking. Benedict was at his desk, working, his cell phone sitting right beside him.
The moment Benedict saw Janice, his expression changed. His voice was low and tense.
“Are you out of your mind? What are you doing here at the office?”
Without a word, Janice tapped the “call” button on her phone. Instantly, Benedict’s phone rang.
So he hadn’t been busy after all—he just didn’t want to answer her calls.
A sharp pain stabbed through Janice’s chest as Cynthia’s words echoed in her mind: “It’s not like you’re the only one.”
“Why didn’t you answer my call?” she demanded, her voice unraveling as she shouted at him.
Benedict frowned, quickly got up, and hurried to the door. He pulled Janice fully inside and shut it behind her.
He could tell something was wrong. Trying to sound gentle, he reached for her hand.
“I really was busy. I left my phone here in the office and didn’t see your call. I only just got back before you walked in.”
Janice didn’t buy it.
Benedict let out a frustrated sigh. “If you don’t believe me, I can pull up the security footage right now, okay?”
Janice’s hands balled into fists at her sides.
“Then why couldn’t you keep it together with Giselle? If it weren’t for her, we wouldn’t be in this mess.”
Her voice was thick with resentment. Benedict scowled, clearly annoyed.
“Giselle was a mistake.”
He fixed Janice with a hard look. “You told me before that none of that mattered, as long as we were together. Now you’re bringing up Giselle—is this how you want to do this? Do you really want to start a fight with me?”
The hurt flashed in Janice’s eyes, her cheeks flushing red as tears pricked the corners.
Only Cynthia was allowed to fight with him openly.
Janice didn’t even have the right to argue.
