Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 360

Dominic didn’t bother arguing any further. He turned from the kitchen and headed straight for the bathroom.

After a quick shower, he made his way to the dining room, only to find breakfast set out for one—just a single bowl of soup at the table.

Frowning, Dominic turned on his heel and went back to his room to grab his phone. He’d barely unlocked it before a message from Cynthia popped up:

*Mr. Holloway, your breakfast is on the table. Something urgent came up at work, so I had to leave early.*

His expression darkened as he read the message. Without hesitation, he scrolled to Fred’s number and hit call.

“Is there some emergency at VistaSphere Group today?” he asked as soon as Fred picked up.

Fred, who lived closer to the office and was still in bed, sounded puzzled. “No, nothing at all.”

Dominic’s eyes narrowed. He hung up without another word.

It was obvious Cynthia had just made up an excuse. She didn’t want to ride with him to work.

He sat down at the table, still scowling, Cynthia’s anxious face from earlier flickering through his mind—how she’d barely eaten, eyes darting everywhere to avoid his gaze. His mood soured even further.

At least she had the decency to make the soup herself, and it did smell pretty good.

Meanwhile, Fred, now fully awake after Dominic’s abrupt call and fearing he’d missed something important, decided to double-check with Cynthia. He didn’t want Dominic to think he was slacking off, so he dialed Cynthia’s number.

She picked up almost immediately.

“Miss Tremaine, is everything alright at your end? Do you need me to come to the office to protect you?”

As he strode toward her, Cynthia glanced at the receptionist and asked quietly, “How long has he been waiting here?”

The receptionist shook her head, looking just as confused. “He was here when I arrived this morning, Ms. Tremaine.”

Cynthia nodded, but instead of heading to the elevators, she set her briefcase down on the front desk, freeing her hands. She stayed right where she was, waiting for Benedict to approach.

There was a fire extinguisher within reach. If Benedict tried anything like he had last night, she was more than ready to grab it and teach him a lesson.

Benedict stopped in front of her, noticing the guarded, wary look in her eyes—and her obvious readiness to defend herself. The realization stung.

He frowned, his voice low and rough. “Are you really afraid I’d hurt you?”
