Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 359

Cynthia lifted her gaze, meeting the man’s impossibly handsome face. She shook her head gently.

“No.”

Dominic’s brow furrowed, his eyes darkening.

“You’re sure?”

She nodded. “Yes.”

A trace of annoyance crept over Dominic’s features. “You really haven’t thought about explaining anything to me?”

Cynthia lowered her eyes, composing herself. When she looked back up, there was a calm smile on her lips.

“I don’t see what I’d need to explain.”

They were just employer and employee, business partners at best.

There was really nothing that needed explaining.

Dominic’s expression turned cold, his eyes flashing with disdain as he glanced at her before turning and walking out of her room.

Cynthia pressed her lips together, then quietly closed the door behind him. The moment it clicked shut, she couldn’t help but raise a trembling hand to her face.

Her palm came away damp and hot.

The next morning, Cynthia woke early.

As soon as she stepped out of her room, she heard the front door locking.

Dominic must have gone for his morning run, just like yesterday.

She found herself honestly impressed by his stamina—up before dawn to run, managing Holloway Enterprises during the day, and somehow still finding time to unwind with video games at night.

He rarely went to cocktail parties or business dinners.

No wonder, after all these years, he still didn’t have the faintest trace of indulgence or vice about him.

Dominic was faster. He caught her around the waist, pulling her flush against his chest in one swift motion.

Her nose bumped his solid chest, and his familiar scent filled her senses.

Above her, his voice was teasing. “What’s wrong, trying to destroy the evidence because I caught you?”

Cynthia froze, then quickly pushed him away to create distance between them.

He let her go easily, a hint of a smile playing at his lips. In his eyes, she saw her own reflection.

She took a steadying breath, refusing to meet his gaze. “You just got back from running. You reek of sweat. Go take a shower.”

Dominic raised an eyebrow, pinching the hem of his T-shirt and bringing it to his nose. He didn’t smell anything, but he didn’t argue. Instead, his voice dropped to a low rumble.

“So if I’m freshly showered, does that mean I can hold you as much as I want?”

Cynthia pretended not to hear, turning away to ladle the porridge into bowls.
