Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 355

She didn’t answer, nor did she show the slightest intention of explaining herself, which only made Dominic’s expression grow colder.

Galen, seeing things were about to escalate, leaned in and tried to smooth things over for Cynthia in a low voice.

“Sir, please don’t be hard on Miss Tremaine. It’s not like she wanted that jerk hanging around her.”

Dominic’s gaze was icy as he watched Cynthia silently duck her head and slip into the backseat. His eyes narrowed with a hint of irritation.

“Oh, I’m sure she didn’t mind at all.”

Cynthia slid into the car, automatically taking the left-side seat. Glancing at Dominic’s stormy face, a flicker of guilt passed through her eyes. She murmured quietly, “I didn’t.”

She had no business entertaining any thoughts about Benedict—those days were long gone.

The moment Dominic stepped into the car, his presence cast a shadow that seemed to swallow Cynthia whole. His mood hadn’t improved in the slightest.

As soon as he was inside, Galen closed the door behind them, leaving Cynthia to accept her fate. She braced herself, expecting Dominic’s sharp tongue at any moment.

But instead, he didn’t even bother to look at her. He just shot her a side glance, scoffed, and turned away, his eyes full of biting contempt.

Whatever he didn’t say out loud, his glare made perfectly clear.

Cynthia parted her lips, ready to defend herself, but before she could say anything, Dominic’s phone started to ring.

He pulled out his phone and glanced at the caller ID. With a flick of his elegant fingers, he answered and brought it to his ear.

“Miranda. What is it?”

Cynthia heard the restraint in his voice and, for a moment, clarity flickered in her eyes. Whatever explanation she’d been about to offer died on her lips. She turned to stare out the window, her gaze tinged with melancholy.

The car was silent as a tomb.

Even though Dominic hadn’t put the call on speaker, Miranda’s sweet, lilting voice was still audible.

Galen saw Dominic’s expression in the rearview mirror—dark and unfathomable, like a bottomless lake. He sighed quietly, gave up, and focused on driving.

Cynthia stayed silent. Dominic didn’t say a word either. An odd, tense stillness settled between them.

Inside the restaurant, the rest of the group was just starting to recover from their shock after Cynthia left with Dominic.

“Wasn’t that Holloway Enterprises’ Mr. Holloway just now?”

“I think so. How on earth does Cynthia know Mr. Holloway?”

“No wonder she broke things off with Benedict so decisively. Turns out she landed Mr. Holloway. She really is something—first Benedict, who helped her get on her feet, and now Mr. Holloway. Some people are just born lucky.”

“Do you think they’ve been together for a while?”

Benedict stood there, face like stone.
