Called Off the Wedding, Left Him Bankrupt novel Chapter 345

The Tremaines of The Capital—no one in Benedict’s current social circle could even dream of comparing to them in stature or influence.

If it hadn’t been for that whole Giselle debacle, he would have already started breaking into The Capital’s elite circles by now.

How could Benedict not regret it? The thought made him want to punch a hole in the wall.

But then he remembered Cynthia’s loyalty—seven years together, a relationship deep as roots. She couldn’t possibly forget all those years overnight. If he played his cards right and regained her trust, there was still a chance he could reach The Capital’s inner circle through her.

With that in mind, Benedict reminded himself to tread carefully from here on out.

He turned to glance at Cynthia’s office door, tightly shut, a flash of greedy ambition glinting in his eyes.

Inside the office, Cynthia sat at her desk, making no move to invite Terrance to take a seat.

Terrance shot her a heavy look, pulled out the chair opposite her, and sat down without waiting for permission.

“I heard from some old friends in The Capital that you’ve been spending quite a bit of time with Dominic lately. Have you finally come to your senses?”

Cynthia’s expression remained cool and unreadable. She lounged back in her chair, looking completely at ease.

“What, have you cooked up another scheme to make life difficult for my sister and me?”

Terrance’s face stiffened. His voice dropped, thick with irritation. “You’re both my daughters. Why would I ever want to hurt you? It’s just that Tremaine Holdings has been barely treading water under your sister’s management. I only started thinking about taking over because I was worried about the company.”

Cynthia let out a cold laugh. “And why is Tremaine Holdings in such dire straits? Wasn’t it you who dug the holes it’s fallen into? If you were in charge, the company would have gone under years ago.”

Terrance glared at her, his face darkening. “Your sister’s still a woman. She just doesn’t have the natural advantages for business.”

Cynthia shot him a sidelong glance, a mocking smile on her lips. “You’ve been tangled up with Georgette Sutherland for over a decade, but she hasn’t given you a son to play dynasty with, has she?”

Terrance’s jaw tightened, his expression growing even more severe.

Fred nodded, shooting Terrance a wary look. “If you need anything, just call for me. I’ll be right here to make sure you’re safe.”

“Thank you, Fred,” Cynthia replied, her smile never leaving her face.

With that assurance, Fred closed the office door again.

Cynthia rocked back in her chair with a sly smile, her eyes fixed on Terrance, her expression openly mocking.

“What, were you about to hit me?”

Terrance’s chest heaved as he struggled to contain himself. He finally sat back down, his face like thunder.

“Cynthia, I’m still your father. The way you just spoke to me was completely out of line. I’d like for us to sit down and have a real conversation as father and daughter, without all the barbs and accusations.”

Cynthia’s lips curled into a faint, chilly smile. Her voice was almost dreamy. “Dad, if I recall correctly, we’ve barely spoken in nearly a decade. I’ve almost forgotten what it’s like to have a father at all. How are we supposed to sit down and have a heart-to-heart now?”
