Hearing this, Nathan stared at her intently. “Joanna, I gave up my four sons for you, your mother, and your brother. Joanna, you can’t let me down.”
He couldn’t have made the wrong bet.
Wendy had truly loved him, and he was reluctant to let her go.
Joanna looked at her father and smiled. “Dad, don’t overthink it. Now that you’re divorced, we’ll pick a good day for you and Mom to get married. We’ll even have a grand wedding, but there’s no rush. We can do it next spring.”
“For now, go and keep Mom company. I have things to do.” With that, Joanna left.
Nathan felt a heavy, unsettling feeling in his chest, as if he had lost something vital.
Meanwhile, the news that Nathan had filed for divorce right after Wendy's company went bankrupt exploded online.
People who knew of Nathan came out in droves to condemn him.
[Nathan started with nothing. He only got rich by marrying Wendy. The moment they lost their money, of course he'd bail.]
[You guys don't know the half of it. I heard Wendy was set up, that her company was bought out for a pittance by some mysterious buyer. I bet Nathan conspired with outsiders to steal his own wife's assets.]
[Nathan hates it when people say he's living the good life because of his wife, even though it's true. Wendy must have had some seriously bad karma to end up with a heartless scumbag like him.]
[Let me add some fuel to the fire: I heard Nathan even disowned his four sons to get the divorce, only taking his ‘adopted’ daughter with him.]
[Tsk, he only took the adopted daughter? You don't think there's something shady going on between them, do you?]
[I bet the two of them worked together to steal everything from Wendy.]
[I know another secret. Nathan cheated on her with some woman at Mr. Wilson’s banquet.]
