Joanna stood up with effortless elegance. "Why don't we go over and see?"
Her gaze dropped to Natalie's legs, and she laughed with unbridled arrogance. "Oh! I forgot. You still can't walk. You're completely useless right now."
Natalie, however, was surprised. She stared at Joanna's legs. "Wait, I remember you were also bound to a wheelchair. You couldn't walk either. How are you wearing high heels?"
Joanna lifted the hem of her skirt. "Technology is amazing these days, Natalie. This cost a fortune. I've always known the perks of having money. This brace is light and comfortable, allowing my injured leg to stand perfectly upright."
Natalie looked at the highly expensive metal brace strapped to Joanna's calf.
She blinked, meeting Joanna's mocking smile, and just felt a wave of secondhand embarrassment.
Was Joanna really trying to show off with that?
Joanna's steps were agonizingly slow. The metal brace on her leg was computer-controlled, gently moving in sync with her good leg. But her injured leg still caused her immense pain. It only allowed her to mimic a normal walking posture. No wonder she had suddenly sat down earlier—she simply couldn't stand for long.
When she stood, she had to shift all her weight onto her good leg just to maintain her balance.
Natalie gave her a thumbs-up. "Joanna, you're incredible. Seriously, I have to hand it to you."
She hadn't even thought of utilizing that kind of high-tech gear.
But it was pure self-torture. The injured area would still ache terribly.
Natalie smiled. "It's quite a novelty. As long as you're comfortable."
In truth, Joanna was anything but comfortable. Her leg throbbed with pain.
But she could stand elegantly, and as long as she looked flawless, the pain was worth it.
Natalie activated her wheelchair, quickly zooming past Joanna.
She flashed her a triumphant smile. "Take your time, Ms. Scott. I'll go check it out first."
