Chapter 165
Ruby’s POV
The ball was a huge success.
All the guests in attendance enjoyed themselves. Hardly anyone felt awkward or uncomfortable being there. Guests from various backgrounds interacted solely through their masks. They had fun behind them. Some formed small circles to chat, while others danced freely on the dance floor, unconcerned
about their status.
This is exactly why I so readily agreed to host the event. One of its purposes was to reduce discrimination or racism among the many beings created by the gods.
“How long will you keep rejecting every hand that reaches out to you?”
Leia’s voice echoed in my mind. I tried to maintain a composed expression, though I could feel several eyes stealing glances in my direction. I had stepped down from the throne to mingle with the guests. Killian had done the same, though he looked like he’d rather swallow a lemon than speak to his allies from neighboring realms.
“I’m waiting for the right moment. You know how jealous our mate can be,” I replied, slightly annoyed.
Leia winced. “Yeah, tell me about it. Anyway, why don’t you just stay with your Anti–Social King?”
“First of all, I don’t want to be labeled the clingy queen. Second, Killian needs time with his people. And third, you know what will happen next if I stay
beside him!” I explained passionately, shadowed by vivid imaginations.
A warm sensation spread across my cheek.
“Ugh, he’s the worst with his possessiveness!”
“Sometimes I’m honestly embarrassed by his antics. He’s lucky my love for him outweighs everything else.”
Leia made a gagging sound. She shared the same thoughts. Because yes, it was true–Killian could be excessive, and it took real patience to constantly remind him that not everyone on this earth wants to crawl under my skirt.
“We are free spirits,” Leia said.
“To this day, I still wonder why the moon goddess chose him as our mate.”
I could feel Leia stretching her muscles, the i of white feathers fluttering beautifully in my mind.

“Leia! That’s completely inappropriate!”
I wiped my mouth and offered a ling smiles to those who looked worried, silently letting them know that their queen was perfectly fine.
“What? Don’t tell me you’re still acting like a prissy little teenager,” she snorted in disgust.
“Need I remind you how you touched yourself before coming here just because you couldn’t stop thinking about how incredible our mate was last time he ravished us in the garden?”
My hand flew to my face as I groaned, “No, thank you.”
Leia was still rambling on with that filterless mouth of hers. I sometimes wondered how we could be so completely different when we shared the same

soul. Throughout her little episode, I tried my absolute best to maintain composure until she started going deeper into birds and bees territory
I was about to scold my wild wolf when a soft, polite baritone voice cut in.
I turned and found a man wearing a white mask adorned with golden accents. A single feather rested elegantly on the edge of the mack. The smile ke offered could melt anyone who saw it. He looked no older than his early thirties; composed and carrying an inviting aura that could even sway the Lord.

And yet, my nose still caught the scent of nerves radiating from his pores.
“Greetings to the honor of Sundrench. Your Majesty, it is an honor to be in your presence.”
A silver–tongued charmer, I mused. I placed my champagne glass down as a servant passed with a tray.
“Raise your head, sir. Introduce yourself so we may speak more comfortably,” I commanded.
His eyes widened adorably. I smiled, amused, a

“Actrutus Lance. Just a humble citizen of this beloved land. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Your Majesty,” he said, bowing low.
“Duke Lance?”
“That’s merely a title. My status is no different from any other guest here.”
I shook my head. I’d already heard of the duke’s commendable reputation. Perhaps those rumors weren’t fabricated after all. I saw no trace of the arrogance I’d often encountered among certain nobles.
“How humble of you, Lord Lance. I might just allow you the honor of leading me onto the dance floor in return,” I said, crossing my hands gracefully in
front of me.
“Y–you’re serious?”
“I’ll withdraw the offer if you don’t take it soon.”
Actrutus’s laughter made me smile. Alright, one dance wouldn’t hurt. With this, my duty would be fulfilled, and no gossip would arise simply because i avoided socializing.
“Allow me the honor of this dance, and may it bring comfort to Your Majesty,” he said with a graceful bow.
All eyes turned toward us. A chorus of gasps echoed in the background as Actrutus extended his hand toward me. Not wanting to embarrass the poor man, I accepted his invitation.
“Very well, Duke.”

As expected, we slipped easily into conversation. From across the room, I could feel Killian’s glare burning a hole into the back of Actrutus’s head. No doubt he was already planning a hundred different ways to murder him.
“I feel like something sharp is stabbing into my back,” Actrutus murmured.
“You’re not wrong,” I replied with a smirk. “My jealous husband is currently shouting obscenities in his mind, all because some bold man dared to ask his
wife to dance.”
He chuckled. “You’ll protect me, won’t you?”
“That depends.”
