Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 303

“But seriously, I have to hand it to you,” York said with a shake of his head and a wry smile. “Your Windsor & Co. has already outgrown The Sinclair Group by a mile, and yet you handle it all so effortlessly—and actually seem to enjoy it! Honestly, it’s enough to make anyone jealous. Comparing ourselves to you is just asking for trouble, isn’t it?”

Beasley didn’t think much of the compliment. “Everyone has their strengths,” he replied, unconcerned. “Yours just don’t happen to lie here.”

York felt a little better being reassured by his old friend. He raised his glass in a toast. “Cheers to that!”

Soon, the dishes they’d ordered began to arrive, one after another.

They chatted and ate, just like old times.

“By the way,” York said, suddenly remembering something, “did you increase your investment in the Sudden Dawn TV adaptation a while back?” He took the chance to ask Beasley about it.

He’d been so busy lately that he hadn’t had time to keep up with the news from his own film company. Still, whenever anything significant happened, the execs always kept him in the loop.

Beasley was slicing into his steak and answered matter-of-factly, “Yeah, I did.”

He’d seen a rough cut of the series, and it was impressive.

Of course, his real motivation was Willow. She’d handpicked the creative team for the adaptation, and if this was her dream lineup, he was determined to give her the best possible support.

Watching that rough cut only further confirmed Willow’s impeccable taste.

“But why put in so much money?” York pressed, unable to hide his confusion. “It’s just a TV series. No matter how expensive, it shouldn’t need another hundred million, right? How are you ever going to make that back?”

In his mind, only the biggest blockbusters needed a budget in the billions. For a TV show, a few million would already be impressive. Yet this series, counting the earlier rounds of funding, had a total investment of over a billion.

Compare that to the movie version: Beasley had put in a billion, York himself three hundred million, and the Worthingtons had chipped in another two hundred million. Altogether, the movie side had raised one and a half billion—barely five hundred million more than the series.

York just couldn’t wrap his head around it.
