There were several women working the boutique floor, and as soon as one of the sales associates heard Willow’s plea, she rushed over. But Connor was still blocking Willow’s way, making no move to let her pass.
The young saleswoman, now standing awkwardly on the other side of Connor, could only flash Willow a polite smile and ask, “Hi there, ma’am, is there anything I can help you with?”
Even as she spoke, she was already speculating—were these two a couple in the middle of a lovers’ quarrel? It wouldn’t be the first time; after two or three years working here, she’d seen plenty of these scenes.
Besides, the woman was stunning, and the man looked like he had money to burn. The dynamic was all too familiar.
Clutching the clothes to her chest, Willow spoke directly to the saleswoman. “This man is harassing me in your store. I’m calling the police, and when they arrive, I’d like you to be my witness.”
Calling the police? Wasn’t that a bit extreme?
The saleswoman’s eyes widened in shock, while Connor only ran his tongue along his back teeth, looking more amused than concerned.
There were other customers in the boutique, but most were browsing in the women’s section next door. Right now, only Willow and Connor were in the men’s section, so their exchange quickly drew attention. Curious glances drifted their way.
Connor slipped his hands into his pockets, flashing an easy, dismissive smile. “Miss Sheffield, I only came over to say a friendly hello. No need to make this a police matter.”
The saleswoman chimed in gently, “Yes, maybe there’s a way to resolve this without causing a scene.”
Then, turning to Connor, she added, “Sir, why don’t you let this lady pay for her things first?”
With any luck, once Willow left the store, whatever drama followed would be out of their hair.
Willow’s gaze was icy as she looked at Connor. “Either step aside, or I’m calling the police.”
Connor arched a brow. “I told you, I just wanted to say hello. Is that a crime now? No need to blow things out of proportion.”
