Blizzard, First Love and a Wife Who Finally Snaps novel Chapter 315

Isabel didn’t know the love story of Julian’s parents. She only knew that his father had passed away.

Every time he went to see old Mr. Reed and said, ‘My old man sent me to check on you,’ it was his way of not forgetting. The image he had of his father, Harold, came entirely from what old Mr. Reed told him. A part of it must have come from Kate Caldwell, too, but Isabel had never asked for details. That past was surely painful for him, even if he acted like he didn't care.

“The whole thing was clearly Catherine’s fault, but she actually blamed Julian and his mother for jinxing Harold to death. Isn’t that hilarious?” Evelyn continued, not noticing Isabel’s pensive state. “It just goes to show, there’s nothing good about the Blackwells.”

“Grandma is still very kind,” Isabel said.

“She’s not a Blackwell by blood,” Evelyn countered. “She just married Adrian’s grandfather. Without her, the Blackwell family might not have survived this long. Adrian’s father clearly couldn’t hold the fort.”

The Blackwell family was thriving now because a genius like Adrian had been born. It seemed the family’s genes skipped a generation. It also spoke to the quality of old Mrs. Blackwell’s genes—at least in terms of ability. In other areas, like character, they were lacking.

“You know, if you had just stayed in touch with me back then, instead of getting married in secret without telling anyone who it was, I would have definitely done some digging for you. I would have made sure you knew more, or I would have stopped you from marrying him.”

Isabel felt that talking about the past didn’t really accomplish anything now. Of course, she knew Evelyn was just venting for her, saying these things out of concern.

She couldn’t argue, or she’d seem ungrateful.

“It’s not too late for me to know now. Once we’re divorced, I’ll have nothing to do with him.”

“It’s not the same. You have a child with his blood. You can’t just say you don’t want him and be done with it.” Evelyn was a bit frustrated with her, but it was all in the past, and she knew more words were useless. “Just remember, if you’re ever unsure about something, you have to ask me instead of making decisions on your own.”

“I know.” Isabel glanced out the window, then called to Edmund. “It’s about time. Put on your coat, we’re going to build a snowman.”
