Ophelia laughed.
"Do you think looking for someone is the same as wholesaling, that you can pick and choose and give up whatever doesn’t suit you?"
"You deserve better men."
Ophelia soon calmed down, "Madeleine, I'm fine. Go if you need to work. I want to stay alone for a while."
"That's fine, you must call me if you are feeling lonely. I'll have to write my story. The editor is in a hurry."
After hanging up the phone, Ophelia got up and wanted to go upstairs, but she saw a person standing there. She was shocked. Who else could this person be besides Zachariah?
Ophelia held the phone tightly, wondering why he was here?
"Have, haven't you left?" Ophelia was a little stuttered, she was afraid that Zachariah would hear the conversation just now.
"Just went upstairs and took a shower."
"When did you stand there?"
"When you said it’s an insult to the concept of family if you regard us as family."
Ophelia avoided Zachariah’s stare.
"Mr. Chambers, I’m sorry."
Zachariah walked down to her side. He lifted her chin, looked at her with deep eyes, and said, "Is our family really a lie in your opinion?"
Ophelia still avoided his gaze.
"Look at me." Zachariah said aggressively.
Ophelia looked at him, but Zachariah caught the stubbornness in her eyes.
"Why is our marriage a lie?" Zachariah asked aggressively.
Ophelia looked at him stubbornly and asked, "Isn't it?"
Zachariah felt that his chest seemed to be burning with fire, and his expression became a little gloomy, "Why?"
Ophelia was confused for a while, not quite sure about the meaning behind Zachariah’s question.
"Are you in pain when you are with me?" Zachariah said.
Ophelia looked at him in surprise, she seemed to detect a trace of fragility in his voice.
"Sorry, it turns out that I’m being greedy and you are under pressure." Ophelia picked herself up and faked a smile, “Mr. Chambers, I will see you off. I wish you and Miss Fletcher everlasting love.”
Zachariah frowned.
The ringing of the phone broke the dead silence between them, and it was still Cora.
Zachariah took a deep breath, and finally answered the phone.
"Zach, it's been an hour, why haven't you come?" Cora said.
Zachariah said patiently, "I'll go over now, have you eaten?"
"I have no appetite if you are not here, and my wound hurts a bit. I can't sleep either if you are not here." Cora said weakly on the phone.
Zachariah didn't feel Cora’s words were sweet, he only felt that Cora was so clingy to a horrible degree.
In his impression, Cora has always been simple and fun-loving. Although she was a little self-willed, she was also considerate. He didn’t expect that Cora was so eager to possess that he felt a little suffocating.
"You should have dinner. I'll be there soon."
"No, you are not here, I am afraid and I have no appetite, so you need to come here quickly."
