Ophelia nodded in honesty.

Zachariah sighed. “I don’t understand women. You’d get mad at me for worrying about other women if I do worry, and you accuse me of being cold when I don’t.”

Considering it for a while, Zachariah nodded in agreement. “I’ll have the chauffeur drive you home, then. It’s long past lunchtime, and you shouldn’t starve for the baby’s sake.”

Ophelia nodded back. She had originally planned to stay with Zachariah, but the history between him and Cora would put her in an awkward place if she did. She was Jackie, and Cora was Marilyn. Now, Marilyn was inside facing a possible miscarriage during the surgery, so if she stayed, the Fletchers were likely to freak out when they saw her.

Ophelia shot him a sideways look. “With Miss Fletcher in such a miserable state, the Fletchers are probably not going to let you off the hook easily. I mean, their daughter is pregnant with your child after all.”

Zachariah reached for her cheeks and gently stroked them. “You’re worrying so much, you’re turning into an ever-so-attentive grannie.”

Ophelia shot him a second sideways look.

“Alright, alright. I know you’re concerned about me. Go now, and I’ll call you if something happens with Cora,” said Zachariah comfortingly.

Then, Ophelia finally decided to leave. When she got into her car, she decided to call Mrs. Chambers out of residual concern.

Mrs. Chambers’ loving voice filled her ears as soon as she picked up. “Hello, my dear.”

As Ophelia listened, she found the words of Mrs. Chambers’ both surprising and chilling.

“Don’t blame me for being too hard on her, dear. I just don’t want any other woman to go about posing a threat to you. I like you a lot, and I shall have nobody else as my daughter-in-law.”

Thus, Ophelia felt guilty for what had passed through on mind.

“Sorry, mom.”

Mrs. Chambers laughed over the phone. “Silly girl. Zachariah is the one who should be saying sorry to you, but there you are, apologizing to me. I know how much misery you’ve been put through in our family. Zach is a good manager at work, but not a competent husband. Please put up with him and instruct on him. “Zach is a nice person and he’s nice to me,” answered Ophelia.

“That’s good to hear from you. Alright, go home then, and I’ll have some nutritious food sent to you soon.”

After hanging up, Ophelia cast a lingering look at the hospital and drove away.

Shortly after she left, the Fletchers hurried to the hospital.
