Billionaire Lost to His Surrogate In A Love Game novel Chapter 203

“I’m okay, Mr. Kenelm,” said Ophelia as she shook her head, “I was just in a tense and worried state throughout the drive over, so I suppose that’s why I don’t look good.”

Mr. Kenelm quite liked this young wife of Zachariah, who was like a nephew to him. Though lacking in a prominent family background, Ophelia more than made up for it by being sensible, graceful, and well-mannered. She had an elegant air about her, which made her every move supremely charming and pleasant. From a male perspective, women like her were very much “wife-material,” and any man sophisticated enough would be able to rid himself of the prejudicial assumption that she was a loose woman simply because of her looks.

“A pregnant woman like you should value her health above anything else. You being tense all the time will be bad for the health of the fetus, so you must watch out for yourself, okay?” Mr. Kenelm walked her into the hospital as he exhorted.

“Yes, Mr. Kenelm, I’ll take your advice to heart,” answered Ophelia meekly.

“Why don’t you catch some rest in my office?”

“That wouldn’t be necessary,” said Ophelia as she shook her head. “I’ll be fine after sitting down for a while. Please don’t feel compelled to stay with me, Mr. Kenelm, if you’re busy as the president of the hospital. I feel bad enough for bothering you with a phone call earlier.”

“You’re like a niece-in law to me, so don’t feel like you’re bothering me in any way. Feel free to call me in the middle of the night, and I will wake up every doctor in this hospital for you, because should anything happen to you, Helena will have my hide for sure,” joked Kenelm.

Ophelia grinned. “Anyway, thank you very much, Mr. Kenelm. Please feel free to return to work if you’re busy. I’ll quite alright waiting here outside the operating room. And Zach is coming too in a while.”

“Okay, I’ll be off then. Call me if you need anything,” replied Kenelm before he left.

Ophelia sat alone on the bench outside the operating room for about ten minutes before Zachariah showed up.

“Ophelia, how’s she doing?” said Zachariah as he ran towards her.

Ophelia felt weird to see him in a clearly worried state. Nevertheless, she replied, “She’s in the operating room still.”

“What happened exactly? Why would she call you? And how’s the baby?” Zachariah asked without a pause.

Shooting him a look with a complex mixture of emotions, a slight pang of hurt flashed across Ophelia’s helpless mind.

Weirdly, Zachariah didn’t feel the sadness and pain he’d expected to rise in his heart; on the contrary, he secretly felt relieved.

“We don’t know that for sure. Let’s wait to hear what the doctor has to say.”

Ophelia stared at him, surprised by how calm he looked at the news of Cora’s accident. Was he faking calmness, or was he just a naturally unfeeling man? Because if it was the latter, then this guy would be much too cruel.

Ophelia hoped and prayed that his calm exterior was just a pretense, because although she didn’t want him to weep over another woman, she’d prefer it to the possibility that Zachariah just did not care at all about Cora’s accident, whom he loved. What kind of a heartless, frightening man would he be then?

“Aren’t you worried about her, Mr. Chambers?” asked Ophelia tentatively.

Zachariah put an arm around her. “Stop reading too much into this. Wouldn’t you be jealous if I act too worried?”

But Ophelia’s concerns only grew. “Your calmness is scaring me, Mr. Chambers.”
