"Although since she only took one out of the pair, and the fact that she took the smaller one makes me think that she probably wasn't a gold digger. If she didn't know the meaning behind the Double Dragon, perhaps she took it as a keepsake or by accident. If that's the case, as long as it's still with her, there's a huge chance of getting it back! Also, why would you not carry such an important thing with you around at all times? Now you've dropped the ball. It's quite the price you had to pay to sleep with her. Ooh! Was it worth it?"
Hearing this joke, Elijah threw a cold glance over. "Get lost!"
Of course, he had wanted to have it with him at all times. It just so happened that that was time for its fifth-year inspection. Being swamped with work, he had forgotten to keep it and brought it to Korea with him. Coincidentally, this happened. Everything happened all at once and it was chaos. By the time he realized he had lost one piece of the Double Dragon, he was already back in the country. He didn't even remember at one point he had lost it.
As it turned out, he hadn't lost it, it was in Korea when...
"Okay, okay. Enough! Let's not talk about it anymore."
Laughing, the man raised his hand to show his surrender. His eyes were rolling around and he looked very curious. After a moment, he couldn't help but say,
"Hey, I heard that you've fallen in love with a provocative nightclub owner?"
As he spoke, the man made an S line, looking mischievous. Before he could finish his sentence, he noticed Elijah's gaze getting colder. Immediately, he gulped down.
At this time, there were waves of voices outside the door.
"Mr. Henwick, there's an honored guest inside. We can't afford to offend him. Miss Jones isn't here! Please leave."
"You look down on me too, don't you? Who does Carolien think she is? Isn't she just a b*tch that sells her body? She should feel honored that I like her. Now she thinks she's all that? Is my money not worth anything? I'll run this place to the ground! Get out of my way!"
"Mr. Henwick, please calm down! Carolien is probably just busy. Why don't you go back to her room and wait for a while? It's not that we look down upon you. Mr. Luther is inside talking business. You better not go and stir up trouble."
"Yeah. You can talk to us! Then, you won't have to worry about accidentally seeing something you shouldn't."
"Yes, go back and wait! Miss Jones should be free soon!"
......
A few of them chimed in tacitly. Their tones were high and low mixed with the odd whispering. There was a clear tone of mockery in their voices. From far away, two servers lowered their faces and grinned. Instantly, the man was triggered to the point where his face turned red. With all the black figures surging around him, the blood rushed to his head and he kicked the door open.
"Carolien, you..."
When he looked up and saw that there were only two men in the room, he froze immediately.
Elijah stared at him, stood up, and pointed at him. "Who the f*ck are you? Do you want to die?"
Did he not know whose room he was barging into?
The familiar name came into his ears. As he turned his eyes, his dangerous eyes narrowed.
At this point, Carolien, who had changed into a bodycon dress with a suit jacket, squeezed in from behind. "What are you doing here? There is no need for so many people to be here. Eli-"
She deliberately called out Elijah's name in a sweet tone. Then, she paused as if just realizing what was going on. She gasped.
"Mr. Henwick is here too! I just went to get changed. What's going on? Are you in the wrong room? Maaike, don't just stand around. Show him out."
Turning around to smooth things over, Carolien winked at Maaike.
Maaike took a step forward, but deliberately said impatiently, "Mr. Henwick, please!"
This was a way out for Walter, and if he was smart he would have taken it. However, Maaike's eyes, attitude, and tone were so disdainful.
In Walter's eyes, he felt like she was screaming, "See, told you not to stir up trouble. Get out of here!"
He had no idea Maaike had purposely whispered to the other girls about Carolien having to accompany a generous old man. She also said that some people should know their place and not try to punch above their weight. All these words were spoken to trigger him and lure him to this floor. Human emotions were easily swayed. As someone with a high ego, especially when it came to money, this only served to piss him off even more.
Naturally, she had purposely omitted to mention Elijah's name. Instead, she described him as a man who was incomparable to him apart from money. This set him off and made him come here to start an argument. It was only at the door, under everyone's eyes, that they revealed the other man was Elijah. At this point, Walter had been pushed into a corner. With so many people watching, unless he wanted to be known as a coward to everyone, he had to stand his ground. Either way, no matter what he did, Carolien and Maaike succeeded in their plan.
If he did not defend himself, he would be too ashamed to ask Carolien to drink with him again. If he did step up to the challenge, it would mean going against Elijah directly. It was unlikely that he wouldn't care. Even if he stood aside, now that he had seen Elijah in person, he would not be repeating this behavior again.
