Ryn's pov
Nate shrugs. "The girl was hot Ryn but it's not like I would've fucked her whilst she's injured." He rolls his eyes.
"Nate, another word from you involving Miranda I'll punch you in the throat." I warned staring at him menacingly. He chuckles not taking my warning seriously.
"By the way Nate, how did you reach here so quickly aren't you supposed to be at the crime scene? Things shouldn't have been settled so quickly." I asked, realizing that it didn't take him long to reach here.
He snorts. "I left José to take care of the rest." He says like he doesn't have a care in the world.
"I was right you are daft! How could you leave José out of all people at the crime scene?" My voice rises.
"Nate you need to take these things seriously, this isn't a joke. Like you said, you knew I was at the restaurant which means that they could easily access my finger prints on anything. I did kill people today Nate if the officers are careful they'll know it was me." I grit out.
He sighs. "Calm down Ryn it's José for pete sakes the guy is a bum when it comes to work. When I saw you leaving with Ace I had to come and see if you're alright, I couldn't exactly trust you with a criminal now could I? Even though I knew you could handle yourself."
"Nate you're not getting it, my fingerprints are everywhere." I snarl.
He raises a brow. "Hey it's not my fault that you were sloppy."
My eyes turn to slits. "Sorry that I wasn't exactly prepared to fight off gang members and try to be extra careful where I would place my hands."
"I understand what you're saying Ryn I'm not stupid, but you're missing the fact that I was the first responding officer who was at the scene, I had asked the main people questions before anyone and had made sure to tell them to keep your identity confidential. I also can mess with the evidence if they had gotten dirt on you." He says so smoothly like he had gotten an answer for the most difficult question.
I narrowed my eyes. "Nate you could get fired if you get caught." Saying it softly.
"Then it'll be worth it, anything to protect you Ryn, you're like a sister I never wanted, so being a big brother I need to protect you." He says seriously.
I laughed. "You just said a sweet thing only to end it with an insult."
He chuckles and was about to say something else when Marlie's voice floats from upstairs, telling us that dinner was ready. I shout back to tell her we were coming, hoping that she heard me.
"I'll go tell Ace." I informed Nate avoiding his accusing eyes.
"Ryn that guy can't be trusted, he's a criminal for pete's sake!" Nate declares not so gently.
"Don't you think I know that? I've been after him for years." I grumble.
"Yeah you've been after him alright." The way he said it, it was like he was implying something that may have crossed my mind a few times. Not that I would confess to it.
"Now that's an insult Nate, I'm not after the guy for anything like that." I said but I swear I was lying through my teeth.
He sighs. "I'm sorry Ryn, it's just that I'm trying to look out for you, guys like him just want one thing."
"I'm know Nate, I'm not stupid to fall for him." I said softly.
I knew Nate was right, Ace just wanted one thing and as soon as he would get it, I'd be left broken in pieces unable to put back together. And even though it hurt me to think so lowly of him I told myself it's for the best if I thought in that manner.
"Why would you want to do that bellissima? An hour ago you were ready to let me take what's mine." His accent rolling in thick.
I snap my head to face him and glared menacingly. I refuse to let him speak to me in such a manner, like he owned me. "I'm not yours to take, I won't stoop so low again and let you touch me in such a way. I feel revolt just thinking of your hands on me." I spat.
He moves away from me like I had burned him. His eyes flashed with hurt but a second later was filled with anger." Are you trying to say that you weren't just moaning my name while I fingered you, that now the thought of it revolts you?" He spits.
I scowled at his words. "Yes the thought of even an inch of you close to my body again makes me feel nauseated." I lied.
"Fuck you Ryn!" He roars furiously. "That asshole filled your head with nonsense and you're now telling me lies."
"I'm not fucking lying and what he said was nothing but the truth!" I yelled then sighed when I realized we were now in a yelling match and if we got any more louder Nate will show his presence, something I didn't want to deal with right now.
"Look Ace what we did in the kitchen can't happen again, you're a criminal and I'm a cop, things like this shouldn't happen." I point at the two of us. "This can't happen." I say softly.
He nods. "You know what you're right I'm a criminal, what was I thinking of even touching you? When I can get any woman I want, one who isn't afraid to show what they really want." He says harshly.
His words made me gulp down a tightness in my throat suddenly feeling thirsty. I cleared my throat as it burned from holding myself from crying. Why was I so emotional by his words?
"Then go to those women Ace, I can't give you what you want." I say softly. I curse at myself inwardly for feeling like I had made a mistake for telling him those words. I need to get out of here before I cry in front of him. That'll just be embarrassing on another level.
I turn around and open the door. "Marlie said dinner was ready, so get dressed and meet us upstairs." Was the last words I uttered to him before I closed the door leaving him standing there?
