Their eyes fell on me for a split second, before his mother turned her head to talk to Noah. I pretended to be busy with the dress I wasn't planning on buying.
"We're leaving now because your father and I have a gala to attend in two hours. We'll leave Rose and Elliott with Britney."
"Lucas' picking me out after this so I'll be home later too."
"Do you need money for anything?" his father asked and pulled out his wallet.
"I'm fine." Noah said, but my eyes widened when his father pulled out two hundred-pound bills and handed them to him.
Holy shit.
Rich people.
Noah sighed and took the money, stuffing them in the back pocket of his jeans.
"Come on." His mother said and took Elliott in her arms, just as his dad took a hold of Elliott's hand.
"Goodbye." I awkwardly said as they walked away. They didn't bother to return the greeting, except of Elliott and Lily, who waved excitedly.
"I know what you're thinking." Noah said, taking a few steps towards me.
"What am I thinking?" I asked.
"That my parents are cool. Everyone thinks that."
"Aren't they?"
"Not at all."
"Well they just gave you my monthly paycheck without you even asking. My parents can't even spare five quid without me getting on my knees."
"So that's why you've been staring at that dress for the past ten minutes?"
"Yeah. It's double the money I have."
"How much is it?"
"Twenty."
"Did you at least try it on?"
"No. But it's my size."
"You sure? Because it looks a bit big for you."
"I'll take it as a compliment."
"Why would calling you skinny be a compliment?" he asked and I went through the rest of the dresses, giving up on the expensive one eventually.
"Everything here is expensive, it's not fair." I whined and Noah shook his head, picking out two of the dresses.
"These look good." He said and I turned around to look what he was holding. One of them was a peachy floral lace dress and the other one was a sweetheart dress with a nice blue flowerprint on it. Of course I liked them both.
"They're cute." I spoke and took the peachy one in my hand, fiddling with the fabric before checking the tag.
"Holy shit it's thirty quid! I don't even have half of that."
"I do."
"I can't let you pay for my dress. It's too expensive and I won't be able to pay you back."
"You'll find a way." He said in a suggestive tone that I chose to completely ignore. "And it's not like I'll go broke if I spend...fifty quid on you."
"Rich people are annoying."
"A thank you would be nice." He said sarcastically.
"Thank you."
"You have to try them on though."
"Why? They're my size."
"I want to see you in them."
"That's intimidating." I said but started walking towards the changing rooms anyway.
He patiently leaned against the wall outside, as I changed into the first dress, then the second one.
"So?"
"They fit." I told him and came out of the changing room, already dressed in my clothes.
"You didn't show them to me."
"I invited you."
"Why did you though?"
"Because you seem like you could use a good time. And besides, I need a wingwoman tonight."
"What about Lucas?"
"I think he'll be a bit busy." He said and Lucas shot him a look through the rearview mirror.
"Okay then, I guess."
The taxi stopped in front of a KFC and I held my breath because great. What's better than a high calorie eight pm dinner?
Noah paid the driver before all of us got out of the car, heading straight into the restaurant. There was a long line at the five registers, so Noah asked us what we wanted so that we could go and get a table.
"Uh--I want--a Mojito."
"That's all?"
"Well--I don't really have money right now-"
"Just stop with the money excuses." Noah said, rolling his eyes. "You know I can pay for you."
"I'm not hungry right now." I lied.
"You're not one of those girls that doesn't eat to make themselves look thinner, right?"
I felt my cheeks heating up because Lucas was also staring at me.
"Fine. Uh, I'll have a Snack Box then. With Sprite."
"Okay, here."
He handed Lucas the shopping bags and told us to go get a table, so we did. Noah seemed to already know Lucas' order, since he didn't ask him what he wanted.
We sat down in the back, at the only table of four left. Lucas sat down at the other side of the table, to leave Noah's place either next to me, or right across from me. He placed the shopping bags at the foot of the table, before pulling out his phone and checking the time.
He looked like he was waiting for someone, and I wondered if Eleanor was coming too. I wouldn't have minded that, she seemed really nice.
Noah came over a few minutes later with two trays in each hand, muscles bulging out as he held them. There were four different meals on them, which definitely confirmed my suspicion that someone was going to arrive soon.
