His body froze in place as she swiftly approached him.
“When did you get here?” She asked, glancing up at him.
His face remained expressionless. His gaze shifted to somewhere else. “Yesterday,” he murmured.
“Why are you here?” Her voice rose, “Did you come alone?” She didn’t understand why she was intercepting him, or why she was probing with these questions.
They had just had an argument, and neither of them backed down. They were supposed to be strangers now. However, she couldn’t shake off the nagging thought. What if he was here for her?
“I have a lecture at the school.” His Adam’s apple bobbed as he spoke. His gaze involuntarily landed on her. “I spent a year of high school here. The lecture’s this afternoon. Would you like to come?”
A faint sense of disappointment tugged at her heart, but it was well-hidden.
“I am spending the day with Ian. I’m sorry,” she said. Her gaze shifted towards Ian.
The smile had long since faded from Ian’s face, replaced by a cold stare in their direction. A bodyguard stood next to Ian, holding the robot toy, also looking in their direction.
Feeling awkward, Violette took a deep breath. “It’s just a coincidence, running into you like this.” She paused. “Well, I should go.”
As she turned to leave, he grabbed her arm. “Let’s have dinner tonight,” he added quickly. Fearing her rejection, he continued, “I’m leaving here tomorrow.”
“Ian probably won’t want to have dinner with you. So...”
“I know you can convince him. He listens to you,” he said, stepping closer. His dark eyes were fixed on her. “Violette, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have doubted you. I didn’t mean to, but I hurt you.”
Her cheeks flushed instantly, and her body temperature was rising rapidly, leaving her heart in a frenzy.
“Mom, why is he here?” Ian asked.
“He came to apologize to me.” Violette didn’t want to hide anything from her son. “He wants to have dinner with us tonight.”
“I knew he was up to no good.”
“If you’re not comfortable with it, we don’t have to have dinner with him tonight,” Violette said with a smile, not wanting to affect Ian’s mood.
Ian looked up at her. She was an open book to him.
That evening.
Violette, accompanied by Ian, arrived at the restaurant that Elijah had booked. It was Ian who decided to come, because he knew she wanted to.
