“It poured cats and dogs last night. How did you leave the door open?” Mike had already guessed what had happened, but he didn’t want to make it explicit. If she still didn’t want to talk about it, he wouldn’t press her.

“Sarah claims she heard my voice when her eyes were gouged out,” Violette said. Her voice was as cold as her expression. “Such a poor lie, but some people believed it.”

Mike said, “Luckily, Adrian can vouch for you. But, what were you doing at Adrian’s place yesterday?”

“Just some work stuff,” she brushed it off. “But if I tell that to others, they probably won’t believe me.”

“Why? Do you and Adrian have some romantic thing going on? If that were the case, you would’ve been together by now,” Mike teased. “But honestly, I quite like Adrian’s type of man. It’s just that usually, they attract the bad girls.”

Violette retorted, “Adrian would never get involved with a bad girl.”

“I didn’t say Adrian would be with a bad girl. I said he attracts bad girls.”

“Don’t say that! Good girls can like Adrian too!”

“Alright, alright! My bad. Adrian will definitely find a good woman,” Mike conceded, and only then did Violette let him off the hook.
