Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around! novel Chapter 433

The woman he loved dearly had died so miserably and painfully, it was only right for them to have a taste of the same agony! No, the pain should be increased multifold!

Charles hugged his knees as he stared blankly at the sun outside the window.

Did Sophia like to watch the sky outside like this when she was in prison?

… No, that would not have happened.

She probably did not even have the time to do so since the inmates were always torturing her…

Most of all, he single-handedly caused all of this!

Charles clenched his fists and beat his chest harshly. He could feel the blood flowing in his veins slowly thickening and slowing down in his body. He only felt discomfort and pain.

He said he loved her, yet the constant sufferings she had to bear was caused by him!

Was it because… he should not have made her stay by his side when he had not handled everything properly?

Click.

Right then, the door opened.

A fifty-year-old man dressed in a standard military uniform from head to toe entered the room. Despite his straight posture and military adornment, he looked very kind and gave off a sense of amiability.

“Scram!” Charles yelled coldly without even turning to look at him.

Commander Zoe chuckled. “Harris, why are you throwing such a temper? Did the people who brought you over just now do something that aggravated you?”

He walked to Charles as he spoke and reached out to pat him on the shoulder.

However, just as his hand almost reached Charles’ shoulder, Charles suddenly grabbed his wrist and threw him to the ground over the shoulder.

Caught completely off guard, Commander Zoe was thrown to the ground. Yet, Charles did not stop just then. He crouched down and grabbed the commanding officer by the throat.

The two guards Commander Zoe had brought along quickly stood on each side of Charles’ and pointed their guns at his head. “Let go of the commander!”

The guards knew that Charles was certainly not playing around and they dared not ease down as they kept a careful stare on him.

However, Commander Zoe waved his hand at the guards. “Put down your guns.”

Charles was gripping his throat quite tightly, and so the commanding officer had slight difficulties trying to speak.

“But…”

“No buts, put your guns down this instant. This is an order!”

Having been commanded, the guards had no other choice but to put their guns away. Still, they kept their gaze on Charles so that they could rush forward if he tried anything.

“Harris, it’s fine if you want to do this but you should at least give me a heads up, shouldn’t you?” Even as Charles had his hand wrapped around the commanding officer’s throat, Commander Zoe remained unmoved.

Charles’ expression was cold and indifferent, but the instant he raised his hand, it turned into a punch that landed on the commanding officer’s face.

He and Commander Zoe had been working together setting up a plan. They just needed another one or two months before everything was in place and they could out the bigshot behind all this.

During this time, the two had been unable to contact each other, so as not to be caught by the other side. However, he had repeatedly reminded Commander Zoe to arrange for someone to keep an eye on Sophia and to keep her safe.

Right then, Commander Zoe’s reaction was almost instantaneous, but…

“What did you promise me back then?!”

Charles grabbed the commanding officer by his shirt collars as his eyes turned red with anger.

He loathed Commander Zoe for going against his words, but most of all, he hated himself even more. He should not have handed the responsibility of taking care of Sophia’s safety in the hands of an outsider!

“Are you talking about… Ms. White?” Commander Zoe was stunned for a couple of seconds before coming around when he heard Charles’ question out of the blue.

“Mr. Harris, where to?” Mr. Logan asked.

As soon as Charles was taken away, he texted Mr. Logan and asked him to wait outside the prison as he would be out soon.

“Bamboo Virtues Village.” Charles’ voice was cold and laced with exhaustion.

It was a bumpy road ahead, and as soon as Charles finished speaking, the car went over a bump. He stretched his arm out subconsciously and positioned it behind the passenger seat so that Sophia would not bump her head.

However, as soon as the car went over the bump, his hand was still empty.

He turned around, only to remember that Sophia was not around anymore… His heart felt empty as well.

“Mr. Harris, we found out who did it.” Mr. Logan could not help but wince when he saw how distraught Charles was from the rearview window.

Charles retracted his arm and the tormented look in his eyes instantly vanished as the usual cold, menacing look returned. “Who was it?”

“Ms. Leah Jones.”

It was snowing heavily and the murderer did not bother cleaning up the footprints left along the road. The police followed the trail and quickly found out that Leah was the culprit behind this.

However, knowing how smart Ms. Jones was, it should have taken much more time to have discovered this. He had a feeling that this seemed… intentional.

Charles tightened his fists as regret washed over him.

He should have killed her in the first place. Then, Sophia would not have died!

It was all his fault!

There were so many windows of opportunities where he could have protected Sophia, but his greed of wanting to get rid of every single person in the picture had stopped him and convinced him to go along with her plan…

“Mr. Harris?” When Mr. Logan did not get a response for a very long time, he glanced at the rearview window. The man who had always solved every single problem thrown in his face with ease and confidence was now completely shaken with tears in his bloodshot eyes.
