Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around! novel Chapter 428

If Mrs. White were to see Sophia, she would certainly suspect something was going on, and if that happened, Ms. White’s plan would be exposed.

However, if he refused to do so, it would be obvious that he was hiding something.

He was at a loss for what to do!

“Dr. Hemingway?” Seeing that he had gone quiet, Nicole called out to him. His silence only further confirmed her decision of checking out the hospital room.

Victor had no choice but to accept her request. With a reluctant frown, he said, “Since Mrs. White is still doubtful, let’s go and have a look.”

The only fortunate thing about Sophia’s injuries was that her face was as disfigured as the corpse’s. It was almost impossible to determine which was which by just judging from the face alone.

Even if Nicole saw Sophia’s body in the room, as long as he denied her allegations, there was no way for her to confirm her suspicions and she could only continue suspecting him.

The two of them were occupied with their thoughts as they made their way to the room Sophia was hiding.

When they arrived at the door of the room, Victor stopped Nicole just as she was about to push the door open and enter the room.

“Dr. Hemingway?” Nicole turned to him. She was even more certain now that her instincts were right and something fishy was going on.

Victor averted her gaze unnaturally. “Mrs. White, what if you enter the room and not see what you wanted to see?”

“Dr. Hemingway, how would you have any idea of what I want to see in the room?” Nicole paid particular attention to every word he used and refuted his question.

Victor looked at her straight in the eyes this time and said in a cool tone, “Mrs. White, I don’t know where this hostility you have toward me came from but I have never done anything to Ms. White. You have questioned me relentlessly and doubted my integrity, what if my innocence is proven in the end and I have never done anything that you’re suspecting me of?”

“Dr. Hemingway, you’re overthinking the situation. I’m just curious as to what’s in this hospital room and I wanted to satisfy my curiosity by checking it out. I’m sorry if I made you uncomfortable in any way.”

Nicole was determined to go into the room. As soon as she finished her sentence, she opened the door before he could stop her again.

Seeing this, Victor froze as his eyes widened.

She saw it… did she not?

“Mrs. White…” He was just about to explain that this was just another burn patient when Nicole walked right into the room.

The words that hung by Victor’s throat were swallowed back as he followed her.

The room was empty. The bed was well made with not a single wrinkle in sight, bearing no sign of anyone who was just lying on it. Aside from the bed, there was a huge blue storage box on the floor.

… Where did she go?

Was Sophia hiding in the storage box?

Nicole shared the same confusion as him. Thinking that since she had already offended the doctor, she simply went forward and opened the storage box.

However, the storage box was empty.

She crouched down and checked beneath the bed. Still, there was no one.

Just as she checked the room, Victor glanced around the room and frowned. Sophia was just here moments ago, where did she go? The injuries she suffered were extremely serious so she should not be moving around…

“I’m sorry Dr. Hemingway, I admit I overstepped.” Nicole should feel disappointed, not having found what she intended to, but somehow, she should have expected this.

Soph was not alive anymore, what would Dr. Hemingway possibly want with her dead body?

She had clearly let her imagination get the better of her, thinking that Soph was still here.

Blood dyed Jax’s clothes blood-red within seconds as he curled up on the floor in pain. His face was as pale as a sheet of white paper at this point due to the excess blood he had lost.

Everyone was completely stunned by the scene before them, including Sterling. He never thought someone could be so… ruthless.

Clank!

The fruit knife fell to the floor with a crisp sound as everyone winced involuntarily.

“Go treat him, don’t let him die,” Charles said lightly, his tone as casual as if he was just talking about what he had for breakfast this morning.

Everyone in the room was terrified from the tip of their hair to the marrow of their very bones. The doctor and nurses dared not disobey him at all. They quickly nodded and hurried over to help Jax up to the bed before they began to stop the bleeding.

Sylvia was stunned for a moment, and when she finally came around, she screamed at Charles angrily, “Come at me if you have something against me, why do you have to hurt…”

The remaining word was stuck in her throat and she could not finish her sentence.

Charles had stopped in front of her, his right hand wrapped around her throat tightly. “One by one, what’s the rush?”

He would not forgive them for killing Sophia!

The force exerted on her neck was so strong that she felt as if he was about to crush her neck. Sylvia had never felt so close to death and she could not help but try to struggle free from his grasp.

“Char… Charles, don’t… Don’t act so rashly!”

He was too strong and he barely flinched at her great efforts of struggling free. When she spoke, her throat felt so tightly stuck together and it hurt incredibly much.

However, the more he acted out like this, the more reassured she felt for doing the right thing.

Sophia would always be his weakness if she was still alive, and having her as his weakness would only hold him back!
