Some of the bodyguards present were hers, and upon hearing her words, they immediately moved toward Sophia.
“Wait a minute!” Yvette quickly stopped them. She turned to her sister-in-law and said in a gentle tone, “Luna, don’t you think it’s a bit inappropriate to be resorting to violence and force when Father is on his deathbed?”
Being the eldest daughter of the Harris family, Luna was used to having her way. “What if I want to?” She snorted at Yvette’s response.
“My men are here as well. I wonder who would win if they get into a fight,” Yvette said with a gentle laugh, still keeping her graceful and elegant poise.
The Cox family was a family dedicated to the military service, and so the bodyguards Yvette had were all retired veterans of the special forces unit. Each one of them was picked among the very best and were highly trained, how could an average bodyguard possibly match up?
Luna’s expression darkened. “Yvette, are you trying to oppose me just for the sake of an outsider?”
“Soph is Charles’ wife, how is she an outsider? Besides, the baby she’s carrying now is my grandchild and it is my duty to protect the baby.”
Luna’s expression was rigid but she kept quiet. Then, she called Lena and Oscar over.
The three of them had always had each other’s back as they had the same parents.
It was a rare occasion that Ted sided with the three siblings since he was worried that Sophia’s baby would get a share as well.
The situation was obvious now. It was four against one, and Sophia and Charles were at a disadvantage.
Charles had never expected anything from them. In fact, he had already guessed that this would happen when he decided to bring Sophia over.
He looked at them coldly and suddenly said, “Harris Corporation is indeed involved in human experiments.”
Everyone was stunned when they heard his words.
They had initially thought that someone was trying to stir up trouble for the Harris family and fabricated evidence to accuse the corporation of this illegal act, but they had not expected it to be true!
“Does that mean that Harris Corporation has been funding and conducting human experiments for almost five years now?” Luna’s voice trembled as she asked.
If the company was proven to be involved in human experiments, Harris Corporation was in big trouble, especially if someone else was behind the scenes trying to frame them!
Charles observed her expression as a jeering look spread across his face. “Eight years, to be exact.”
Luna paled even more.
Funding human experiments for eight years was not a small crime!
Oscar and Lean fell silent as well.
Ted, however, seemed quite antsy. “Charles, don’t change the topic! We’re discussing whether Sophia should remain here, why are you telling us those things all of a sudden?”
Everyone turned to him with a dumbfounded look. Was he an idiot? If something bad happened to Harris Corporation, the shares in their hand would lose all value and they would become penniless paupers overnight!
Yet, here he was spouting nonsense!
Charles ignored him and turn to Oscar and the rest of them. “If Grandfather is no longer around, all of you can only put your faith in my capabilities, right? So don’t defy me anymore or I’ll make sure you’ll regret this, understand?”
“Understand what? Don’t blame me for using extreme measures if you still won’t ask Sophia to leave!” Ted grumbled.
This time, no one paid attention to him.
The nurses and doctors immediately stopped what they were doing but nobody responded, nor did anyone step out of the room. Even Aunt Jacinda who had been by his side for so many years and never went against his orders remained still.
Master Harris hated it when people disobeyed his orders. He instantly lost his temper, but he had used up all his strength to squeeze out his words earlier and he was so exhausted now he panted heavily.
“Everyone? Who are you talking about? Your children and your grandchildren?” One of the nurses plucked down her surgical mask and revealed a face that was adorned with exquisite makeup. Despite the skillful makeup application, it was still unable to cover her wrinkles.
Master Harris widened his eyes when he saw the face and yelled, “Sylvia Yates? What… are you doing here?”
He shook his head violently as he bellowed at Aunt Jacinda, “Get… her out of this room!”
“Oh, you poor thing! You’re literally on your deathbed, yet you still don’t understand what’s going on.” Sylvia waved at Aunt Jacinda and continued, “Jacinda, he’s already dying, I don’t think you have to play pretend with him anymore. Come on over, would you?”
Aunt Jacinda glanced at Master Harris and let out a sigh, then walked toward Sylvia under his shocked and angry gaze.
Master Harris began coughing violently as blood filled his mouth. He was burning with a frenzy of rage. “You… you…”
However, he was simply too weak to even speak.
“Are you shocked at this?” Sylvia smiled at him, her eyes filled with satisfaction and content. “I’m afraid there’s something else that might shock you even more!”
Master Harris was glaring at her so hard he felt that his face might cramp.
Sylvia asked for an empty syringe and walked to him. He began struggling as he felt her searching for a vein, and so she called a few people over to press him down so she could insert the syringe.
“Forget it, I’m not a medical professional. It would be a shame to accidentally kill you.” Seeing how frightened Master Harris was, she smiled to herself and had her men let him go. “After all, I still have plenty of things to tell you.”
