Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around! novel Chapter 38

His gaze was giving her too much pressure. Sophia stood up after straightening her back. “I’m sorry.”

Her movement was too big. The slit of her cheongsam moved as she moved. Her long and smooth leg looked rather alluring.

There was an obvious scar on her leg. However, one would not think that her scar was ugly. On the other hand, after being accentuated by the patterns of the cheongsam, it made her look even more seductive.

A few people were looking at her. They were staring at her brazenly.

Charles put down his glass as his eyes darkened.

He leaned back onto the sofa. He crossed his legs together and said coldly, “Get out.”

“This new chick doesn’t know any better. She just goes anywhere she can fit. I have space over here, come sit with me.” Someone laughed and patted the space next to her.

“Haha, it’s such a rare sight to see you concerned about a woman, Mr. Long. Aren’t you afraid that your wife will ask you to kneel on the washboard when she finds out about this?”

“If I die under a skirt, I can still flirt as a ghost!”

Charles glanced at Sophia. His lips were pulled into a thin line. The expression in his eyes was dark and unreadable.

“Thank you, Mr. Long, but it’s okay.” Sophia suppressed her grievance and smiled. “Mr. Harris doesn’t like it when I sit beside him. I’ll just stand, then.”

“You’ve been ignored, Mr. Long.” Someone mocked.

Mr. Long laughed and said helplessly, “Sigh, it can’t be helped, then. Mr. Harris is young and charming. I can’t compare myself to him! It’s fine this way. At least I don’t have to kneel on the washing board when I get home.”

Everyone in the room laughed. After that, the topic went back to work.

Charles did not ask Sophia to get lost anymore, but he did not look at her either. He was treating her like she was invisible.

Everyone was chatting and talking about business. He would chime in occasionally. For the most part, though, he would just sit there quietly.

Even so, no one neglected him. Everyone looked like they were chatting absent-mindedly, but they would still look at him from time to time. When they sensed something was amiss, they would change the topic.

“It’s such an honor to be able to invite Mr. Harris over here. I’m proposing a toast to Mr. Harris and everyone else present.” Someone stood up and lifted his glass while smiling at Charles.

Everyone stood up and clinked their glasses together.

Charles stood up last. He tapped his glass to everyone’s glasses.

“Mr. Harris’ tolerance is not that good. Let me drink this for you,” Sophia smiled softly and said in a low voice.

Everyone was stunned. They looked at her curiously. Did this princess say she wanted to drink for Mr. Harris?

Charles lowered his eyes to look at Sophia. After a while, he took the bottle and poured some alcohol into the glass before handing it to her.

The red liquid swirled around in the glass. It looked enchanting and alluring. Sophia pressed her lips together and took the glass. She then downed the contents without any hesitation.

“Great tolerance, pretty lady.” Someone clapped their hands and started heckling her. “Come, have one more.”

The expensive red wine flowed into the glass. The smell of wine filled the room. The empty wine glass was filled once again.

Sophia held the glass in her hand and looked at Charles with her head tilted.

He was sitting on the sofa, his face hidden by a shadow. Sophia could not read his expression, but it was obvious he was not looking at her.

She tugged at the corner of her lips and smiled self-mockery. She lifted the glass to show it to the men in the room and downed the wine and the bitterness together.

Charles uncrossed and crossed his legs again. His left hand was resting on his knee. He was looking at Sophia’s empty wine glass from the corner of his eye.

He frowned slightly and averted his gaze quickly.

“I like this. So frank and straightforward!”

Cheap… She remembered that he had called her a wh*re before. Her position in his heart was so low.

Charles frowned and did not say anything. He walked past her. When he was at the door, he stopped. “Don’t drink if you have stomach problems.”

Sophia stopped rubbing her stomach. The tip of her fingers were trembling.

Was he concerned about her?

She turned around to look at his back. Before she could thank him, she heard him say coldly, “I don’t want to see any news of Dream Club torturing its employees to death.”

After he said that, he walked out of the door.

Sophia looked at the empty door. Her heart that had been in the midst of blossoming instantly turned into ice. Even her limbs were starting to feel cold.

She rubbed her woozy head and laughed at her self. Did she drink too much?

She thought that he would be concerned about her because she was drunk.

In the corridor.

That woman’s purple cheongsam kept on appearing in Charles’ brain. When her alluring legs appeared and disappeared, he felt an unknown frustration in his heart.

He was not mad or anything. However, that cheongsam was such a sore sight. Plus… This was not the first time he experienced feelings toward Sophia.

He loosened his tie and was walking faster than usual. When he walked past the person in charge’s office, he heard the man’s voice coming from inside the room.

“I got a new item recently. I wonder if you’re interested in this, Mr. Inez. Yeah, it’s a jade pendant. It’s from the Ming dynasty. I want to ask you to look at it for me.”

Charles remembered Sophia’s empty neck. He started walking slower. He tilted his head to look at the gap between the door. He stopped walking and pushed open the door after a while.
