“I should be saying that to you.” Charles’ voice was ice-cold. “I can crush you with just one finger so you better speak politely. Otherwise, I can’t guarantee I will not take out my anger on you when I’m in a bad mood.”
Although Charles sounded extremely proud and arrogant, Jax himself knew that it was only the truth. Hence, he gritted his teeth and kept quiet.
“Let’s just get straight to the point, shall we? I don’t have time to waste.” Charles took his phone out and opened the stopwatch app. “You have five minutes starting from now.”
His challenging demeanor aggravated Sylvia. However, she merely laughed sarcastically. “That’s alright if you’re in a rush now, I can just ask that little girl Sophia to come and have a chat with me some other time.”
“Hah!” Charles snorted. “Do you think this threat scares me?”
“What threat? I just want to talk to my future granddaughter-in-law, how is that a threat?”
“Just like what happened when I was fifteen, you don’t consider that as kidnapping, do you?”
Back when he was fifteen, this paternal grandmother of his had suddenly appeared in his life and showered him with kindness and affection. Since his grandfather had never liked him while his dad was always quite dismissive toward him, the kindness she showed him quickly gained his trust.
She brought him to an island for a trip in a private jet, claiming that it was a reward for him, but on the other hand, she contacted his grandfather and asked for a hundred million dollars in order to let him back home.
He only found out about this when he got home, and he was even more confused that instead of punishing his grandmother, his grandfather had almost beaten him to death.
Ever since then, he had rarely trusted anyone around him anymore.
Sylvia paused for a moment before replying, “I needed the money urgently that time and anyway, I didn’t harm you either. I thought you would understand this.”
“You don’t have to give me excuses as such, I won’t believe you,” Charles said.
A look of regret spread across Sylvia’s face. “I can apologize to you if what happened then hurt you in any way.”
“There’s no need for that. You have two more minutes, I suggest you get to your point now.” Charles was completely unmoved. “Using Sophia against me won’t work for you.”
He gave her an icy glare. “Grandfather is untouchable but it wouldn’t be difficult to deal with a lady like you who has long retired from social scenes.”
“Your grandfather can’t even touch me and you think you can?” Sylvia gave him a look of contempt as if she was watching a child throwing a tantrum.
Beep beep beep——
Right then, the stopwatch went off.
“Time’s up, goodbye now.” Charles got up and got out of the car.
Sylvia followed suit and called out after him, “Charles, I suggest that we sit down and have a good talk, it’ll do both of us good. Otherwise, I’m worried you might regret it.”
“There’s no such word in my dictionary.” Charles did not even hesitate as he strode away.
Seeing his leaving figure, Jax turned to Sylvia. “Baby, this…”
Sylvia raised her hand in a gesture for him to stop talking. “Charles is exceptionally outstanding in any way possible, but one thing he lacks is his grandfather’s street-smarts. Anyway, I already expected this outcome, let’s just go according to our previous plan.”
“Alright.”
Sylvia leaned into his arms and wrapped her arms around his waist. “We just have to go the long way now, how troublesome! Ugh, troublesome matters are the worst!”
“Charles is too smart, and with Yvette and Master Harris watching every move, it’s safer to go according to the original plan.” Jax took her hands in his and kissed it gently. “If you think it’s that troublesome, just leave everything to me. I’ll take care of it for you.”

Bored with nothing to do, Sophia went on the internet to check the news.
All the negative news on the White family had now fallen to the bottom of the top ten trending searches. However, there were still many hate comments, which was most likely the Jones family’s doing to keep the topic trending.
After all, they were planning to sell their shares for a good price so they could not damage White Industries’ reputation too badly.
After a while, he said, “I don’t think you should go out anytime soon. Let me know if you have errands to run or matters to settle and I’ll come along with you. I’ll also arrange a few bodyguards for you.”
“... We live in a fairly safe society now, don’t you think this is a bit too much?” Perhaps it was because she had spent two years in prison, Sophia loathed being in confined spaces as well as having someone watching over her shoulder.
Charles turned to her and looked straight into her eyes. “Anything to do with you is never too much.”
It was only safe to take all the necessary precautions.
The intense look in his eyes was like a vortex that tried to suck her entire soul in.
It was not until he turned away when Sophia came around. “Alright.”
No matter what, she knew that he did everything in her best interest. Perhaps this was just temporary anyway.
After dropping Sophia back in Bamboo Virtues Village, he headed back to the office. That very afternoon, four professional bodyguards were deployed by Charles to protect Sophia.
However, the following five days passed by in a blink of an eye, and nothing happened. Even all the negative press regarding the White Family was well controlled as well.
Sterling dropped by every now and then to see Charles and discuss business matters but Nicole, on the other hand, never came by.
Sophia should feel relieved that everything was going so smoothly but she had a strange feeling that this was merely the calm before a storm.
She felt anxious inside and reminded Sterling several times as well not to be so vocal at the company to avoid exposing their plan. She also told him to be more alert even when he slept.
Her worries were rooted in the two huge incidents currently happening where one was the White Industries’ shares, and the other was Nicole trying to frame Charles out of the blue.
Sophia felt if anything was to happen in her life right now, it would be caused by either one of these incidents.
Sterling was beyond annoyed at her nagging, so he would ask Charles whenever they met that they talk in the study, and then rush off right after they were done to avoid her long lectures.
