Atrophy of Love: Mr. Harris, Stop Fooling Around! novel Chapter 369

Sophia put on her facial mask once again and hurried out of the cafe to hail a taxi. “To Harris Corporation please.”

She sat in the passenger seat behind and turned to look out the window but no matter where she looked, she only saw Charles.

She must be overthinking, there was no way he had anything to do with Mom’s death! She should stop distrusting him so much!

After around twenty minutes, the car came to a stop outside Harris Corporation’s building.

Sophia got out of the car right away and the driver immediately shouted from behind her. “Miss, I need to give you your change!”

“Keep the change.” Sophia rushed into the building without looking back.

The receptionist lady gave her a warm welcoming smile. “Hello, how may I help you today?”

“I’m here to see Charles Harris.” With that, Sophia took down her shades and mask to show her face for a brief second before putting it back on.

The receptionist lady immediately recognized her and did not ask any further questions. She helped Sophia call for the elevator and said to her, “Mr. Harris is on the twenty-sixth floor.”

“Thank you.” Sophia got into the elevator and pressed the 26th-floor button. Then, she watched as the numbers gradually increase. Ever since she had made up her mind to confront Charles, she had been desperately praying for him to appear right before her eyes.

Ding!

The elevator arrived on the 26th floor.

With a deep breath, Sophia grabbed her purse and got out, making a beeline to the president’s office.

There were not many people on this floor, and the only ones who caught sight of her were not too curious, merely giving her a nod when they exchanged glances.

Sophia arrived outside Charles’s office and noticed that the door was left ajar. She casually glanced in and saw that he was standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows with his back against her, talking to someone on his phone.

“Have you taken care of Madam White?”

Just as Sophia was about to knock on the door, she suddenly heard Charles’s voice. Her eyes instantly widened and her hand froze mid-air. She was completely stunned.

What… What did he mean by this?

“Yeah, you can never let Sophia know about this. Delete all the chat records on Madam White’s phone remotely… Yeah, that’s about it now,” Charles’s voice sounded again.

Sophia’s hand fell limp and she could not stop shaking, even her face had turned pale white.

Why was he asking someone to delete all her mother’s messages?

Why could she not find out about this?

Did Charles really had a hand… in her mother’s death?!

“Ms. White?” A voice sounded from behind.

Cold sweat beaded around Sophia’s head and she slowly turned around. It was Mr. Logan. She removed her face mask and smiled at him politely. “Hello, Mr. Logan.”

“Why aren’t you going in?” Mr. Logan asked curiously.

Noticing the voices outside his office, Charles hung up the phone and glanced at the door to see Sophia standing outside.

“I just got here.” Sophia’s palms were covered with sweat but she forced herself to remain smiling. “I was bored at home and since it’s inconvenient for me to go to my office now, I decided to come and see Charles.”

She gave Charles a nonchalant glance but she saw only blankness on his face.

“It seems like I came at the wrong time! I’m so sorry but please bear with me for a moment, I’ll keep it short and leave right after!” Mr. Logan teased her.

“Don’t worry.” Although Sophia’s thoughts were in disarray, she had no choice but to keep the smile plastered on her face.

Charles gave her a long, meaningful look before opening the door for the two of them. Then, he reached for Sophia’s purse out of habit. However, she dodged him consciously, and so he looked up at her with a searching look in his eyes.

Sophia felt as if something heavy was pressing on her chest as she met his gaze. “I had two cups of milk tea along the way. I think I need to use the restroom.”

“Go then, it’s right over there.” Charles stared at her as he pointed in the direction of the restrooms.

Pain.

She felt immense pain in her heart as if it had just been sliced by a knife and burnt under fire.

Charles stared at her red eyes and frowned. He walked to her side and wiped the tears from her eyes. “Is something wrong?”

She would much rather he not act this way. The nicer he was to her, the more pain she felt.

Charles let out a gentle sigh and cupped her face. Then, he leaned down and kissed the tears off her face. “What happened?”

Sophia pursed her lips and the tears rolled down her cheeks into her mouth. It tasted unusually bitter.

She fisted his shirt and buried her head in his chest. Her heart weighed against her chest so badly that she could barely breathe anymore.

“What is it? Talk to me?” Charles gently grabbed her chin and forced her eyes on his. “How can I help you to fight back if you won’t tell me who’s the one bullying you? Hmm?”

The adoration and love in his eyes did not seem feigned. Impulsively, the words slipped out of Sophia’s mouth. “You’re the bully! Tell me then, how can you help me fight back?”

She immediately regretted her actions as soon as the words came out.

However, with one last glimmer of hope, she decided to simply act impulsively to the very end. “Charles Harris, I have a question for you. Are you in any way involved in Mom’s death?”

Sophia waited for him to answer, but he merely stared at her and said nothing.

Her heart instantly sank. “So this whole incident… You’re involved, aren’t you?”

“I guess you could say that,” Charles muttered.

“!” Sophia felt her entire body went cold all of a sudden. She stared back at him in disbelief and her lips quivered as she asked, “Wh… Why?”

Charles lowered his eyes, seemingly deep in thought. However, he was silent.

Sophia’s eyes went dark and her hand went to the slight bump on her stomach. She staggered a bit but before she could fall over, she fell into a broad and familiar embrace.
