Everything was coming all at once. Charles had a lot in his head. He interrupted her in frustration, “Is there any other reason why you’re calling?”
Silence.
After a long while, Yvette said, “Leah was hurt because of you. She’s almost your age, and she’s quite well-to-do in all fields. Your grandpa asked you to get engaged with Leah in case people start to gossip about us.”
“I will take care of this myself. Tell Grandpa not to worry.” After Charles said that, he hung up the phone with a dark face.

Sophia saw what Megan sent. A sarcastic smile appeared on her face. She tossed her phone to one side and did not notice the new person Marie had added into the group.
There were about a thousand employees in Dream Club. There were people who resigned and people who just joined. There were a lot of people going in and out of the group chat. Having a new member was not surprising.
Sophia pulled the curtains and took off the white shirt and dress. Then, she put on her own clothes.
Megan stared at her the entire time. Naturally, she saw the love bites all over her body. “Sophia, you… Your body… So were you successful or not?”
“Are you asking me if I succeeded in seducing him or succeeded in leaving this place?” Sophia walked to the window and opened the curtains again. The moment the sun hit her body, she felt warm. However, her heart was still cold.
Megan saw that she did not look well. She knew she should not ask too many questions, but she still could not suppress her curiosity. “Isn’t it the same?”
“It’s not important whether I successfully seduced him or not. As long as I get the photo of us being intimate, I can leave this place.” Sophia did not know why she told this to a person with malicious intentions. Perhaps… she was too lonely.
Megan got closer to her and said softly, “Did you get the photo or video?”
Sophia turned around and looked at her. She did not say anything.
She stood with her back facing the light. Megan could not see her face. However, she could feel the pressure around her body. “Maybe there’s another way. You don’t have to be so upset.”
Sophia lowered her head and walked toward Megan. When she got to her, she said with a hoarse voice, “Yeah, maybe after ten or 20 years Mr. Harris and Miss Jones will stop bickering about this with me.”
Megan did not know if Sophia was serious or if she said that on purpose. She smiled timidly and said remorsefully while trying to flatter Sophia, “Let’s think about this together. Maybe we can come up with something.”
“Maybe,” Sophia said perfunctorily. Then, she sat down on the bed and stared into space.
Before this, she had been hoping to get a few intimate photos or videos to blackmail Charles. Now that her plan failed, she felt hopeless about her life.
Should she stay in Dream Club forever and remain stuck under Charles and Leah’s shadows?
No.
However, she could not leave nor die.
If she died, Charles would blame it on the Whites. She did not care about her parents, but her brother and sister-in-law had been helping her the entire time. She did not want to cause trouble for them.
Beep.
The nastier the people had been to her, the more frantic their apologies were. They sounded very sincere. It was not like they were putting on an act.
Some people even sent Megan money because they were scared that she would not help them. After all, she barely knew them.
Megan looked at Sophia blankly. She felt even more remorseful now. She put back her phone and walked to Sophia. She crouched down and looked at her. “Sophia?”
“What is it?” Sophia looked at her with no expression on her face. She looked like an oil lamp that had been burnt out. She was weak and tired. She was only barely holding on.
When she saw this, Megan was speaking even softer. She pressed on her phone guiltily. “I don’t know what happened to those people who laughed at you before. They are all apologizing to you all of a sudden. They can’t contact you, so they came to me because they think I am close to you.”
She licked her lips. “Some people even sent me money, I… I accepted them. You decide if you want to forgive them. If you do, I’ll transfer the money to you. If you don’t, I’ll give them their money back.”
Sophia moved slightly and sat up even straighter. She smiled sarcastically. “I am not interested in their money.”
She was rejecting them.
“You were Miss White, so of course, you don’t care for their money.” Megan lectured her using her own experience. “However, you don’t have much pay here. You might live a slightly better life if you accept their money.”
Sophia laughed. This time, it was not from sarcasm, but there was no joy either. “So what if I have the money? I have no annual leave. I eat and live in Dream Club. I can only wear my uniform when I work. Why should I need the money?”
“You can buy some bags or even change a new phone…” This was the first time Megan saw someone who did not want too much money. A lot of things required money, and she always felt that she never had enough money.
