Chapter 323
After the engagement ceremony began, Helena took the stage to thank her family. When she mentioned her father, Edward’s eyes lit up.
He was about to step forward when I kindly held him back.
“The Vargan family invited her biological father, Parker.”
Having helped organize the engagement party, I was very clear about how the ceremony would proceed.
Edward’s expression changed instantly upon hearing this.
He clearly remembered Helena personally telling him yesterday that Parker wouldn’t come, and that he would appear before the public as Helena’s father.
Edward thought I was lying to him, but immediately after, he saw Parker in an Armani suit appearing before everyone, walking toward Helena.
Parker was average–looking but exuded competence and shrewdness that Edward lacked.
Parker also had some international reputation. When He arrived, Helena’s eyes showed worship and pride.
Obviously, she only considered Parker her one true father.
“Dad, I knew you would come.”
Helena directly embraced him.
On stage was deep father–daughter affection, while below, Edward–who had just told everyone Helena was his daughter–looked particularly uncomfortable.
Some people whispered.
“Isn’t Helena’s mother Karin? Then isn’t her father Edward?”
“Right, he just told us he was Helena’s father.”
“What do you know? Edward is Helena’s stepfather. Helena gives Karin some face by calling him father, but you actually thought he was her real father?”
Chapter 323
“What should we do? We just gave him all the gifts we prepared for Helena’s father. Should we take them
back now?”
“He’s not Helena’s biological father, of course we should take them back. We want to curry favor with Helena, not her stepfather…”
The discussion in the crowd made Edward even more embarrassed.
I stood beside him, watching his awkward situation with some sympathy.
I asked: “If I hadn’t been born with hearing impairment, would you treat me the same as Helena now?”
Edward snapped back to reality and looked at me, a complex expression crossing his eyes.
Actually, he had to admit I had been excellent from childhood, not inferior to Helena at all. If not for him, I definitely wouldn’t be in my current state.
More importantly, I was truly considerate. As a child, I would find different ways to make him happy and would tell all my classmates that he was my father.
Unlike Helena, who coaxed him on the surface but had actually arranged for her biological father all
along.
But…
Edward clenched his fist: “You can’t compare to Helena at all.”
I thought I wouldn’t feel heartache anymore, but hearing this answer still hurt, like cold wind suddenly rushing into my chest.
After speaking, Edward saw Helena coming down from the stage and immediately walked toward her, wanting to get to the bottom of things.
I watched him from afar, standing with Helena, looking more like father and daughter than Parker did.
After securing Edward’s hair, I returned to the banquet
I hadn’t walked far when Nigel blocked my path: “Aurora, have you figured out how to get our money
back?”
I didn’t expect him to still have the nerve to ask me this I couldn’t help but counter: “Do you think if you give money to someone else, they’ll return it to you?”
