Chapter 314
Finally, the car stopped at the hospital entrance.
Ferris carried me straight into a private consultation room. The doctor examined me–thankfully, whatever had been slipped into the wine wouldn’t cause lasting harm. I just needed to wait for the effects
to wear off.
I quickly fell into a deep sleep. It wasn’t until the early hours that I slowly opened my eyes, feeling more
clearheaded than before.
As I looked around and shifted slightly, my hand accidentally touched something warm and firm. Puzzled, I squeezed it, then turned my head only to find myself face–to–face with Ferris’s stern features. I’d been gripping his arm.
I immediately let go and tried to sit up.
Ferris’s deep voice came out hoarse: “Still tired?”
My cheeks burned as I stammered: “Not anymore… maybe I was just worn out from all the traveling today.”
He didn’t call out my lie, simply saying: “Mm. Remember not to eat or drink anything suspicious in the future.”
“Okay.”
I nodded. Honestly, it never occurred to me that the wine might be tampered with.
When I drank it, I specifically asked the maid about it. She said it was just ordinary fruit wine with very low alcohol content–even pregnant women could drink it.
Ferris didn’t say more, just instructed quietly: “Alright, go back to sleep. It’s still a long night ahead.”
I glanced around the room and saw only one large bed the sofa had vanished.
I didn’t need to guess who was behind that little maneuver. Fortunately, the bed was big enough that sleeping on the edge wouldn’t be a problem.
“Mm.” I murmured softly, curled up in the corner, and drifted off again.

Chapter 314
The next morning, my alarm jolted me awake. When opened my eyes, I discovered I’d somehow rolled into Ferris’s arms during the night.
Daylight was streaming through the windows. I didn’t well on it–I had Dennis’s engagement party to help prepare today, so I quickly got ready.
The Silver Moon pack had elaborate engagement tradions that required personal attention to countless details. Though I felt no attachment to the Vargan family, Dennis had been kind to me, and I wanted to help make his engagement celebration perfect.
Ferris had actually been awake for a while, quietly watching me. Only after I finished getting ready and
headed downstairs did he slowly rise.
I’d barely reached the bottom of the stairs when Helena approached me.
“I forgot to ask last night–Aurora, should I think of you as a sister or sister–in–law from now on?”
Her eyes gleamed with arrogance as she added: “After all, my stepfather is your biological father.”
My chest tightened at her words, but I quickly fired back coldly: “Whatever you prefer. It’s not like we’ll be seeing each other regularly anyway.”
Helena’s throat constricted, her expression souring.
For some reason, ever since Dennis had personally escorted me home last night, she’d been looking at me
with pure hostility.
She forced a smile and continued: “I’ll think of you as a sister then, since Dennis and I aren’t married yet.”
Before I could respond, she stepped closer, speaking with condescending authority: “Aurora, I’ll need you to come shopping with me today for the engagement ceremony supplies.”
If not for Dennis, I wouldn’t have bothered with her at all.
“Fine. Give me ten minutes.” I replied flatly, then headed upstairs to wash up, leaving her alone in the living room.
Helena made herself at home, looking around appraisingly.
The Vargan family truly lived up to their reputation as the Silver Moon pack’s premier family. Even though Ferris was blind now, his residence still radiate understated luxury. By comparison, Dennis’s

place was far more modest.
I could sense her resentment.
Why should blind Ferris still live better than her fiance?
After getting ready, I exchanged a few words with Ferris, then left with Helena.
At the estate entrance, a black stretch Lincoln waited for us. As the car door opened and I was about to get in, I spotted a familiar figure.
Helena immediately seized the initiative: “Father, you’re here.”
She turned back to me with mocking eyes: “Aurora, why don’t you look happy?”
Edward spoke coldly, completely ignoring me: “Helena, get in the car quickly. It’s chilly out here.”
“Mm.” Helena nodded, not forgetting to shoot me a smug glance. “Get in. We still have shopping to do.”
Watching their intimate display, I simply looked away and got into the car.
The atmosphere during the ride was tense.
Edward held Helena’s hand, his gaze fixed on the massive diamond ring on her finger, his voice full of joy: “Dennis bought this for you? It’s beautiful.”
“Mm.” Helena preened proudly. “Dennis had it specially made. He says if we’re going to have an engagement party, it has to be the best.”
Then she turned to me with a smile that didn’t reach her eyes, her voice dripping with mockery: “Aurora, when you and Ferris got engaged, what kind of ring did he buy you?”
