The night was deep, with howling wind and snow outside the window.

I had just finished soaking my feet and was about to go to bed when I heard kocking at the door.

Thinking it was Simon who had forgotten something, I put on a wool shawl and went downstairs.

As soon as I opened the door, cold wind immediately rushed in, carrying bone chilling ice and snow.

Standing at the door was Nigel.

He wore a thick down jacket with the brim pulled low, snow covering his body

“What are you doing here?” My tone was unfriendly- any sleepiness I’d had was completely swept away by his presence.

“Let’s talk inside,” he said matter–of–factly.

I let out a cold laugh, blocking the doorway and not letting him in: “Whatever you have to say, say it right here.”

He was stunned, probably not expecting me to be so unwilling to give him face

If it were before, Nigel would have just barged right in. But now, needing something from someone, he had actually learned “politeness.”

“Aurora, help me out, will you?” He stood in the wind with a somewhat pitiful tone.

I laughed – a cold, mocking laugh: “Don’t expect me to help. Have you forgotten what you said as a child? That I, a deaf person, wasn’t worthy of being your sister.”

“Those were just angry words from a child. You’re not still holding onto that, are you?” He dismissed it with a wave of his hand and glanced behind me.

I knew what he was thinking. He must be mocking me in his heart: having a perfectly good villa to live in but living in this kind of place instead, living poorly and undignifiedly.

But what he said sounded nice: “Just think of it as helping our entire family. I want to rebuild the group. I only need you to make a tiny sacrifice – one that could hardly even be called a sacrifice.”

“Want me to ‘sacrifice‘ again?” I raised an eyebrow, my voice already cold. “Who are you planning to sell me to this time?”

“I’m just asking you to meet Ferris once,” he said, his tone becoming more excited. “As long as you go, he’ll agree to help us rebuild the group.”

“Ferris?” I didn’t react immediately.

“Yes.” His tone was natural. “I went to talk with him today. He said as long as you step forward, he can help me.”

I was stunned.

Ferris? But the real person in power at Silver Moon Pack wasn’t Ferris at all, but… Dennis.

My eyelashes lowered slightly as an indescribable feeling suddenly arose in my heart.

It wasn’t that I hadn’t thought about seeing Dennis. I had even thought about asking him clearly why he did those things back then, why he left when I was at my most wretched, why he completely disappeared during those years when I needed him most.

But now, regarding matters of the heart, no matter how deep the wound, it should have scabbed over by now.

“I don’t want to see him,” I said softly.

What would be the point of seeing him? Rekindling old flames? Or awkward, regretful silence between us?

I looked up at Niger’s handsome face, my gaze turning a few degrees colder: gel, you’re an adult now. Don’t always think about relying on others for everything.”

“I have no one else to rely on.” his voice was low. “I just want to save what grandfather left behind. I’m only asking this once.”

“You’re not asking me, you’re asking Ferris.” My tone paused. “But this time, on’t agree.”

“Why?” He was like a rejected child.

I said slowly: “Because I’ve learned a truth–in this world, we’d better rely only on ourselves.”

His expression suddenly darkened, as if completely ignited with fury. He grabbed my shoulder hard, the force so great it made me wince in pain.

“If you won’t help, then shut up. What’s the point of saying so much nonsense His knuckles turned white against my shoulder bone.

“I knew long ago you were unreliable! You’ve fallen so low, looking half–dead, and you want me to be like you too, accomplishing nothing for the rest of my life?”

His eyes blazed with anger, the cold mockery on his face stabbing into my heart like knives.

“I’m the grandson of a former richest man! The son of a former Alpha – I will definitely revive our family – what are you!”

After saying this, he pushed hard. I staggered backward several steps, caught off guard.

Just as I was about to fall to the ground, a familiar and strong arm caught me in time.

Familiar warmth and scent surrounded me. In my ear was his deep voice filled with anger:

“Are you okay?”

It was Ferris.
