Estelle's POV
I walked into Lance's office wearing pink slippers, and the scene looked comical. But the atmosphere in the office was freezing, and Lance reeked of terror that someone had pissed him off. Ethan tells me he doesn't want to pressure me, but Lance is negotiating with Anthony, and my presence might affect the peace between the two packs.
I think Ethan did it on purpose, and if that's not stressful, I don't know what could be more stressful. I approached Lance in the center of the storm carefully, and he shot me a look. Then turned on the video.
Anthony's eyes widened the moment he saw me. I had a slight hope that he would forget about me, but his reaction was clearly that he remembered me. So my opening words went from "Hello." to "Long time no see."
Anthony wasn't much surprised, but rather Lance's voice wasn't as subdued as it had been. He asked in a louder voice than usual when we met, and I turned my head to answer him.
"It didn't take long, it was at the exchange. ethan was there."
Ethan casually grabbed a file from the table to shield his face.
"I got a message from your father, are you guys okay?" Anthony's voice came through the electric stream, blurring his otherwise low, mellow voice. His brown eyes were filled with worry, and I felt a sudden bit of guilt at being looked at by those eyes.
"We're fine." I put on my most sincere tone, hoping Anthony wouldn't get the wrong idea. I didn't want to get involved in a war between two wolves.
"Have you taken your vows to him? How is it going there?" It seemed Anthony was genuinely worried about my safety, but that was normal, and he had a deep prejudice against the Legion.
"Yes, I'm already a member of the Eclipse wolf pack. I'm living quite well here." After hearing Mia's description, Lance really treated our family well.
"As you can see, she's fine." Lance hurriedly interjected, not wanting me to have too much interaction with Anthony.
"Okay, I got it." Anthony said from the other side of the screen.
Before I could say goodbye to Anthony, Lance turned off his computer. In a strange tone of voice, he said to me that
"You never told me you knew Anthony."
"And you didn't ask me."
"You guys are close? Just because of that one exchange."
I don't know why he was so curious about it, "He's a good guy, he helped me when Ethan was bullying me."
Then he glared at Ethan, who had walked wordlessly to the office door. He had planned to sneak out. Lance gritted his teeth as he looked at the closed door, and I mourned the punishment Ethan would suffer afterwards.
"He's such a dumbass, he just tried to declare war on me." Lance was upset with Anthony.
"Because you're already over the top." I whispered, words that must have fallen on Lance's deaf ears.
"I'm trying to protect you." He stood in front of me so I was looking right at him, "Anyway, you can't contact Anthony without my permission."
"Why?"
"Because he's the alpha of the other wolves, a threatening enemy."
"Actually, I can go back on my own." I wanted to keep a little leeway for myself, after all, we had just had a fight.
"Is that what you're wearing?" Lance looked at the pink slippers on my feet. God, I had dug myself a hole to jump into and buried myself in.
Lance looked at my red cheeks and smiled, though only for a brief moment, and I caught that smile. It was rare, but I'd seen him smile before. A mocking one, or a dismissive one, those smiles made his handsome face even more aggressive.
But the smile just now was different from anything I'd seen before. It was a completely relaxed one, one that stretched even his perfectly shaped black eyebrows. The corners of his mouth curled up in an elegant curve, and I was surprised to see the word gentle on his face. What was I thinking? I hurriedly lowered my head, did he just give me that look? I shook my head, trying to shake this strange thought out of my mind.
Lance drove me home without us speaking. Although he didn't look at me, I could feel the rest of his eyes on me. The atmosphere was a little awkward, especially after I yelled at him.
I believe Lance is a very controlling person. Although I've seen him angry, he doesn't act out of character when he's angry. So am I, as his mate, under his control as well? I don't know if he can feel the connection between the mate, but all he shows is that he's indifferent. To be honest, I still have a little bit of a loss. After all, every werewolf has imagined his or her own MATE.
The car stopped in front of my house, and I was about to get out when Lance took my hand. "You have to remember that you are my mate. whether you have a wolf or not, our fates are tied together."
I cocked my head at him, "What do you mean?" I could understand his words, but still didn't get his meaning.
"You're mine, that's what it means."
"Are you jealous?" I heard my own voice utter the words. What was I saying? The words suddenly appeared in my head, and then I asked them without even thinking. I suddenly wanted to slap myself twice. But the words had already come out, and I always talk nonsense when I'm nervous.
"......" Lance let go of my hand without answering, which made me choke even more. I opened the car door and left the small space that had embarrassed me. I looked around. There wasn't a single person, which was fine. I was conspicuous enough, and I didn't want anyone to see the Alpha himself driving me home.
Then I ran home and closed the door, not even daring to look back at Lance's expression.
