After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World novel Chapter 1821

Chapter 1821: Hiring Again

Althea now stood in the hiring array, swiping through her options. Since she had a few, she would usually be choosy with the first five and have more stringent requirements before hiring, and then filling up the rest of the slots with a lower minimum.

Usually, her bare minimum was level 14 fighter or professional. For Village level, this was already a powerhouse and a sufficient injection of force.

One would ask how did the chancery work in the first place?

One of the requirements for this was that the hiree must be within the chancery’s grounds. Their ’profile’ would only appear among the options found in Centers if they were within its lot.

It was also why they had to pay accommodations in there too. It was their reason to make their profile as attractive as possible without lying (which wasn’t allowed by oath) and prevent anyone from trying to room for free by making unattractive profiles.

An array could appear anywhere within the chancery grounds and one would only be given one minute to prepare themselves and whatever they’d be bringing, assuming it wasn’t in the space already.

While this was happening, on the side, in the Center, the array would light up for that one minute as if ’loading’ them.

Ruken, a low-level weapon maker originating from a town far east, was currently inside his room at the Chancery. He happened to be relaxing in the tub (the portable and self provided type) at this time.

He was a decent-looking brunette with short hair. He was in his mid-30s now though his level made him look several years younger.

He was stuck in the chancery the entire cold wave, so he had lost a lot of money just for the accommodations! What sucked most was that the town lord here was a greedy ass, so he added a lot of premium to everything. After all, things were more difficult to obtain during a disaster, he said.

The Lord was also mad that he did not renew his contract. Ruken knew he wasn’t even that useful to the Lord and the Lord had been planning to fire him.

But somehow when he resigned himself, the latter’s pride was hit. It was ridiculous!

Anyway, Ruken couldn’t wait to get out of here!

That is..., if someone hired him of course. He was still just a Class E weaponsmith and he set his options to town-only.

This level was not special amongst other weaponsmiths in towns, but he didn’t even consider villages. Life there was too hard and they usually had a hard time maintaining payment while the cost of living in cities was too much.

Still... a profession was a profession. He will get hired! Eventually!

Anyway, the cold sucked and he decided to warm himself well in the tub he created himself. Although he was a weapon maker, a heating tool was the only thing he could make.

If others heard this, they’d think that the cold wave could’ve been the perfect time for him to make money! Sadly, no, because he had to be holding the damned tool for it to work! Otherwise, it was useless! PSH.

During the cold, he couldn’t do this because maintaining it for so long in negative temperature used up too much mana. He needed to retain a certain amount if he wanted to keep himself warm for the rest of the day.

Anyway, this was how useless his inheritance was and the reason why he couldn’t stay in a job for long. Even if he did his best as an assistant to others, usually Class D weaponsmiths, he always found himself isolated.

Meh, who cared, today he was focusing on himself, a well deserved rest and relaxation before he faced the unknown—which probably wouldn’t be a breeze, either.
