Prague’s eyes sparkled and sipped a few more times, taking his time to relish the taste. Tronie grinned. Prague was the type to like full, sweet taste, and he figured he’d like hot cocoa.

"It’s called hot cocoa. It originated here, but I reckon it’d spread out more in the future."

"Hmm," Prague mumbled, taking another sip. And then a few more.

Tronie held back a chuckle.

"So what do you think so far?" he asked. "You still think I’m exaggerating?"

Prague sniffled. He was the most vocal when telling him he’s lying, trying to dismantle his ’imaginary new town’. "It’s not bad," he said.

"Also, I noticed it didn’t seem to have a chancery."

He was the most chancery-hopper among them. That was to say, after the contract period, he was most likely to change employers.

In Alterran terms, he was the ’job hopper’ or ’transient employee’. The longest he stayed in one town was probably 6 months. In a sense, he was also pretty well-traveled.

He could earn a lot of points just from sharing his map alone.

Of course, since he just jumped from town to town and not really roaming around, it was likely his map was blots in a dark map and wouldn’t really be too helpful in navigation. It would just be for record and information, but Alterra would want it anyway.

This was especially so if it was a Level 2 Town, because it could be a possible landing area for those using the Mercenary Hall. People who didn’t want to land in the wrong areas/regions could find this helpful.

It was understandable why Prague was bothered that there was no Chancery here. It was like the basis of his entire career.

Tronie thought of what to say and answered him honestly. "There’s no Chancery in Alterra because there is no need for it. They could have all the professionals they need just by looking around."

Chancery was just a place where people could find jobs, which also meant possibly losing talent to outsiders.

The reason why many other territories had it was that a good portion of the money the hired people paid monthly would go straight to the Lords’ wallets.

It was also practically free to build, in stark contrast with other town buildings that required thousands, if not tens of thousands, of gold to build. This was to encourage town lords to create one. Otherwise, with the limited building slots, few people would choose this.

"If you start working here, no one would work through there anymore, so it was useless."

The chancery was something useful to keep employees safe from harm and help them protect their rights, and this was why most were willing to pay to use this if they dared to get hired elsewhere.

But what if the dangers employees feared did not exist in the territory? What use would it have?

Out of all the "NPCs" hired through the center, not one had changed jobs since then. Went on vacation, sure, but otherwise? Yeah, they’re as Alterran as an Alterran could get now.

Anyway, this place was good, and Tronie wanted to recruit his friends to stay with him. He was just that good of a friend, always intent on sharing good things with people he liked.

Tronie looked at his friend. "Why did you quit your old job? You lasted the longest there."

Prague sighed. "Yeah, it was the most decent place where I earned the most with my tool."

Prague was at the peak of Class E Toolmaking, with his inheritance something called the Noise Ball.

It was a small marble that, when activated, made a loud noise that would irritate even Level 20+ monsters within a 10-meter radius.

It didn’t have physical damage (other than possibly to the ears of weaker people) but the noise it made could really save lives, especially when people were making escapes.

His previous employer was one he had served for six months because they paid well. It so happened that their monster mobs there were sensitive to sound, so his balls were the best weapons. He would receive 2% commission for every tool he made on top of his salary.

However, the old Lord died, and the heir took over, and he tried to remove the commission, saying the balls only made sound anyway and were otherwise useless.

His pride couldn’t handle it, and he quit. Very publicly, too, like he yelled at the damned bastard that he’d destroy his old man’s legacy with his stupidity someday, and he’s glad he’s not there to see it.

Yes, yes, he had anger management issues, but whatever.

He was also a bit sad that the Lord died. He was a pretty decent guy.

In any case, Prague did not know where to go, so he just jumped around (he and his friends were part of a D-class mercenary team), did random missions he could handle, and eventually got further East to this region.

Tronie saw that he triggered some bad memories and sighed.

"Well, what matters now is that you enjoy yourself here!" Tronie said, and then he dragged his friend straight to the arcade.

It naturally caused some conflicts with proud aborigines, many of whom came from Towns as well.

Lines like "Don’t you know where I’m from?" or "Do you want my town to go against your little village?!" or "How dare you!" and so on were fairly common.

Of course, if they were particularly difficult (and violent), they would end up in prison for a few days or at least until after paying bail.

Interestingly, in some cases, Cauis would step forward, and some would recognize him and fall back.

Most of Alterra’s Visitors far beyond the region, were from the West, thanks to their connection with Twinwave and Holt City, so naturally, there would be people who recognized him. It also helped that he had always been active when handling the affairs of their subsidiary territories, unlike other nobles.

Not to mention, Mafo had sold slaves mostly towards the far west areas, so people who investigated the sources in the past month or so ended up in this region as well.

This made the Alterrans appreciate him more, and his fanbase—who called themselves the Long-Hair-scholar-lover Club—grew.

At this, Althea decided to put forward the development of new zones, which consisted of two-storey dormitory-style units.

They were different from the actual new dormitories in the outer wall, which had already been built and occupied, but they’d serve similar functions.

This new area would be using the usual dormitory model, but it only had the floor plan as the similarily. It had one or two twin beds per room, instead of decker beds.

They were also relatively better designed to the level of the Inn, and there were a few ’dorm’ buildings comprising a complex. There’d be more than one such complex.

Each complex would have four buildings with a quadrangle in the middle. The first floor of one or two would have public amenities, including pools, cafes, canteens, and so on. The rest would be bedrooms for rent, paid for daily.

They would be called the Alterra Motels. They’d be like more open, more affordable, and denser alternatives to Inns.

They were located relatively near the new entrances, each one having one complex serving them.

Speaking of the new gates, each one also had a relatively large plaza right after entering the gate, like how it was now, except on a larger scale.

These entrance plazas would be transportation hubs, Beast Inns, and open areas for stalls. The motels would be a few minutes’ walk at most from these plazas.

Nearby, each gate would also have marketplaces dedicated to serving them.

Each marketplace would have a minimum amount of variety so that people could get everything they needed there. It’d also assist the merchants visiting and renting stalls because they didn’t have to traverse so much. It would also ensure that each merchant would have decent sales, because the competition was limited and placed in another market elsewhere.

This way, the traffic would be spread out. Outside of special events located in specific spots, most people would generally be in their area since everything would be available there.

Everything was shaping up quite nicely, and everyone was looking forward to how it would be after everything was done.
