“You should really talk to Jennifer, and Sophia too. We can’t let them disrespect Isabella anymore. Her decision to get a divorce isn’t just because she’s disappointed in you. She’s disappointed in all of us.”
The truth was, the elders in the Adams family had never truly accepted Isabella.
If there was anything that made Isabella want to stay, she wouldn’t be so determined to end things. Ethan already knew he messed up and he was trying to make it right, and honestly, a marriage can be fixed if both people want it.
But Isabella wouldn’t even consider it. She didn’t want to look back or work things out with Ethan. She just wanted to leave.
“Grandma already talked to me. She told me to go home and have a word with my parents. Sophia’s learned her lesson. She won’t be so reckless anymore.”
After that detention, Sophia wasn’t nearly as arrogant as she used to be. The family had decided to send her abroad to study, and she wouldn’t be coming back for years.
Ethan thought Sophia was still too young and hadn’t been through enough to really understand how the world works. Give it some time, let life rough her up a bit, and she’d grow up.
The office phone rang.
Ethan hit the speaker button, and his secretary’s voice filled the room. “Mr. Adams, Natalie’s here.”
Ethan frowned, but he still said, “Let her in.”
Once the call ended, Jeremy spoke up. “Ethan, you need to keep your distance from her. Treat her like a regular friend, not like before. I know you think it’s innocent, just two old friends hanging out.”
“But to everyone else, it looks suspicious. People are talking behind your back, saying she can’t choose between you and Jordan, that the two of you aren’t just friends. They think you spoil her too much.”
“Some people are even saying you’re sleeping together.”
Ethan’s face went cold. “There’s nothing between me and Natalie. I’ve never even kissed her. Sleeping together? That’s ridiculous.”
“If I ever find out who’s spreading those rumors, they’ll regret it. I swear.”
“But you really are too good to her.”
