"I have nothing to feel guilty about. I'm not drinking coffee after you, and you keep asking my staff to give you free replacements. Every time, you take one sip and then complain about it."
"You're just here to stir up trouble. Even if I did drink this cup, you'd still find something wrong with it."
Sophia let out a cold laugh. "You’re scared, that’s all. Your coffee is disgusting. No one should drink it."
"Isabella, let me ask you one more time. Are you going to drink it or not? If you don’t, I’ll make a scene and tell everyone your coffee is basically undrinkable."
She made a move to stand up.
Isabella just looked at her and stayed quiet.
Right then, Jennifer and Ethan walked in. Their timing couldn’t have been better.
"Sophia, I’m going to count to three. If you don’t drink it by then, you’re basically admitting there’s something wrong with the coffee."
Sophia’s nerves were showing, her words getting sharper as Isabella kept refusing.
"One... two... three..."
Isabella cut her off. "Sophia, maybe you should look behind you."
Sophia turned around and saw her mother and Ethan walking over. Instantly, her expression changed.
She spun back, lowering her voice. "Isabella, you tattled, didn’t you? You told them!"
Natalie had warned her, make sure Ethan never finds out about the whole drug thing. Ethan apparently had a soft spot for Isabella now, and if he ever learned what Sophia had done, he wouldn’t care that she was his sister. He’d take Isabella’s side without hesitation.
And that’s exactly what had happened. Ethan was siding with Isabella more and more. He wasn’t the same brother who used to spoil her.
With her mom and Ethan standing there, Sophia didn’t dare act up.
"Mom, I’ll admit her pastries are actually good. But her coffee really is terrible."
"I told her the coffee was bad, and she wouldn’t admit it. I asked her to have a sip, but she wouldn’t. That’s not me causing trouble, she’s obviously hiding something."
Ethan’s voice was icy. "Sophia, you tried to cause problems on the opening day and I stopped you. Now you’re back again, making things difficult for Isabella on purpose."
Sophia suddenly noticed the bruises on Ethan’s face. "Ethan, what happened to you? Why do you look all bruised up?"
Jennifer saw the marks too, but she’d been too busy dealing with Sophia to ask earlier.
"It looks like someone hit you. Ethan, who did this to you? Was it her?" Sophia snapped, glaring at Isabella and letting her anger spill over.
