After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 492

Ethan let his phone slip from his hand, his whole body drained of strength.

“How could this happen?” he whispered, barely hearing his own voice.

When he got to the scene, his secretary hurried over, her face tight with worry. She saw how pale he was, just standing there like he’d turned to stone. In a gentle voice, she said, “Mr. Adams, I’m so sorry for your loss.”

Ethan felt like his feet were stuck in concrete. He just stared at the body on the ground, hidden under a white sheet. He couldn’t make himself move.

The secretary kept talking, quiet but steady. “The funeral home’s been called. They’ll be here soon to take her.”

“The police think it was a kidnapping. They’ve started an investigation.”

If it was just a robbery, Isabella’s phone wouldn’t have been left by her side. And except for that phone, nothing else of hers was there.

The police said she fought back against her kidnappers, and that’s why they killed her. She was beautiful and striking. Maybe the monsters who took her had worse intentions.

Ethan finally forced himself to take a step. Then another. He moved toward her body, slow and unsteady. His secretary and the driver trailed behind, glancing at each other. He looked so pale, like he might pass out.

He knelt down in front of Isabella, his hands trembling as he reached for the white cloth covering her head. He peeled it back, just enough to see her face.

The moment he saw her, something inside him broke. He pulled her head into his arms, sobbing out her name. “Isabella!”

His eyes burned, filling with tears that spilled down his cheeks and soaked into the sheet.

“Isabella, please, wake up. Don’t do this. You can’t... you can’t be gone. You’re just trying to scare me, right? You can’t really be dead.”

He held her close, his whole body shaking, crying so hard he could barely breathe.

The secretary and driver stood frozen, not knowing what to do.
