Knowing Ethan was losing his temper, Jordan quickly backpedaled. "I'm on my way. But it's going to take me a bit. Put Nat on the phone, let me talk to her."

Natalie's face fell as she spoke into the receiver. "You really didn't need to call him. I can go home myself. You're really breaking my heart, Ethan. Jordan, go back to work."

"Nat, Ethan is still recovering," Jordan said smoothly through the speaker. "You've seen him, now let him rest. Don't hover around and keep him awake."

"Come home and let him sleep."

"Fine."

Jordan quickly addressed Ethan again. "You heard her, she's heading back. Don't be mad at her, she's just worried. Honestly, I was terrified too when we heard about the accident."

"Once you're fully healed, we need to grab drinks. It's been way too long."

"My doctors cut me off," Ethan replied flatly. "I don't drink anymore. Not even for networking."

It wasn't a lie. His medical team had strictly forbidden alcohol. He needed at least half a year of pristine rest to fully recover.

His injuries had been catastrophic.

"Alright, then just dinner," Jordan conceded. "I shouldn't be drinking much anyway, it always leads to trouble."

"Don't bother," Natalie snapped. "Those are for Ethan's recovery. I'm not taking them back. I'm leaving."

Despite Susan's best efforts to shove the bags into her car, Natalie stubbornly refused to accept them. Defeated, Susan stood in the driveway, holding the expensive gifts as she watched Natalie's car speed off down the road.

"Yes. Mr. Adams had to call Jordan before she'd take the hint."
