At Sylvan Vale.
Receiving the news that Tanya Mercer had safely left Marina City, Starla finally let out a breath of relief. She had deliberately told Tanya not to come to her. Given the current situation, Sylvan Vale was a heavily guarded secret; she couldn't risk exposing it, not even to a close friend.
"Ma'am," Romy greeted as she approached.
Starla visibly bristled at the title. Lately, both Romy and Seymour had taken to calling her that, a lingering shadow of her connection to Fairfax Yelchin. She had objected, loudly and often, but to no avail. The two of them were stubbornly loyal to their boss and completely ignored her protests. Still, every time she heard it, a wave of irritation washed over her.
"What is it?" she asked, her tone clipped.
Romy caught the edge in her voice and knew exactly why it was there, but she didn't dwell on it. "Amos Kunan is making his move tonight."
Starla's heart gave a sudden lurch. She set down her coffee mug, her eyes snapping to Romy. "Tonight? Isn't that rushing it?"
"He's been driving up the stakes with Mr. Hoggart lately. Sir feels that if we don't eliminate the threat now, things could spiral out of control."
To permanently solve a problem, one had to rip it out by the root. Since General Licht was the source of the imminent threat against Starla, Licht had to go.
Hearing this, a complex knot of emotions tightened in Starla's chest. She hadn't expected Amos to be this invested in her safety. "Your boss and Fairfax must have been incredibly close."
"They were like brothers," Romy affirmed.
