A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 603

Starla didn't bother hiding her actions. She owned up to everything, laying out the precise chain of cause and effect right in front of Brinley.

Brinley grew even paler.

"Everything you're going through is just karma," Starla said sharply. "Look at the seeds you planted. I'm merely delivering the harvest."

The word 'karma' struck Brinley like a physical blow. Why was she being punished? Because of the inhuman things she had done to Starla in the past.

"You're finally getting exactly what you deserve," Starla stated.

Brinley stayed silent.

"You thought I was an easy mark just because I chose to ignore your petty games back then."

The phrase 'easy mark' made Brinley bristle, her resentment flaring up. An easy mark? Initially, when Starla first joined the family, she had seemed like a pushover. But once Fairfax moved her to Petal Villa, everyone realized she was just biding her time. No one had known where her true bottom line was.

"Tell your mother that she has to swallow the bitter pills she prescribed," Starla said, her tone suddenly turning lethal.

The finality in her voice seemed to wrap around Brinley's throat, suffocating her. "So... you really aren't going to let my mother off?"

"My mother said that if you spare her this once, she will be forever grateful," Brinley murmured.

Starla actually laughed out loud at that. "Do you think I need her gratitude?"

She hadn't forgotten the look in Harriet's eyes when she tried to force her into a dead end. Harriet probably never imagined the tables would turn so violently. Now that she was staring into the abyss, she wanted a free pass? *Forever grateful?* Starla knew better. People like Harriet didn't feel gratitude. If she gave her a chance to breathe, that vindictive woman would just plot an even deadlier scheme. Harriet was a killer.

"Of course you don't need anything. You're sitting on top of the world right now," Brinley replied, a distinct edge of bitterness bleeding into her voice.
