A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 505

From the rearview mirror, Rudolf glanced at Herbert. "Sir?"

"Stop the car," Herbert said. In stark contrast to Fairfax's visible rage, his expression was perfectly relaxed.

The car halted about a foot from Fairfax's. Fairfax got out and strode toward Herbert's vehicle. Herbert lowered the window and looked at him.

"You saw her again?" Fairfax demanded.

"And?" Herbert replied coolly.

"If you've got the guts, make her divorce me! What is this, seeing you while she's still my wife?"

"It's called humiliating you," Herbert stated bluntly.

Fairfax was speechless. So were Gabriel and Rudolf.

Rudolf, in particular, was shocked. After all his years with Herbert, this was the first time he'd heard him be so brutally cutting with his words.

Fairfax's cold expression froze for a second before he let out a sneer. "Humiliating me?" He couldn't believe he had ever considered this man a friend, and for so many years at that.

"Do you regret it?" Herbert asked. He had given Fairfax so many chances to make things right with Starla, reminding him time and time again. But Fairfax had never cherished them. He kept running back to the estate, again and again, hurting Starla for Brinley's sake.

Fairfax's chest tightened. Hearing Herbert ask that question felt like a punch to the gut. If he was being honest, yes, he had regretted it. The moment he learned Starla had truly been pregnant, regret had consumed him. He knew then that she would never forgive him. But that regret had been slowly eroded by her recent relentless torment.

The word 'cherish' in particular grated on his nerves. A part of him knew these final moments should be cherished, but all he wanted was to escape.

Herbert glanced at the car blocking his path. "Are you planning on moving? Or would you like me to spend the night at the Yelchin estate?"

Fairfax’s face tightened. Gabriel and Rudolf were stunned silent.

Rudolf felt his head spin. This was more than just being impolite; this was a declaration of war. It seemed his boss was finally done with Fairfax for good.

A cold smirk appeared on Fairfax's lips. He turned to Gabriel. "Move the car."

If Herbert spent the night at the Yelchin estate, the news would spread by morning, and Fairfax would be utterly disgraced. Rumors were already flying all over Marina City about Starla being with Herbert while still married to him. Letting him stay the night would be the ultimate humiliation.
