The word ‘fire’ immediately brought other incidents to mind—Petal Villa, then Harriet’s properties. There was no doubt that Starla was behind all of them. And now Azure Haven was burning. Was it her doing as well?
A while back, Fairfax had told her to return everything to Starla, but she had kept Azure Haven because it was her favorite. Was this fire a coincidence, or was it deliberate?
Just as Xenia hung up, her phone rang again. This time, it was news that her property in Embrooke Garden was also on fire.
Xenia stood there, stunned.
One property after another. No one would believe this was a coincidence. It had to be Starla. That damn woman!
Xenia’s breath came in ragged gasps. “I understand,” she said, her voice tight, before ending the call.
She looked at Brinley. “Brinley, I have to go out.”
“Both Azure Haven and Embrooke Garden are on fire? Could it be…?” Brinley didn’t finish the sentence, but Xenia knew exactly what she was implying.
The realization sent Xenia into a fury. “It has to be that bitch Starla! I’m going to kill her!”
She was absolutely livid. Azure Haven was one thing; her mother had taken it from Starla in the first place. But why burn down Embrooke Garden? What did that estate have to do with her?
As she rushed out the door, Xenia yelled back at Brinley, “Have Mom take you out to eat!”
Neither of them knew that Darleen had already left, driven out by the news of her own burning properties.
