A Widow's Poison, A Wife's Rebellion novel Chapter 1343

At this rate, Yardley might find himself completely pushed out of the picture.

"A shift in power. Good," Starla said, her tone icy. "It's about time things changed around here."

Jane chuckled, appreciating the cold steel in Starla's voice. "It certainly is."

She knew all about power shifts. When the Merlin family's patriarch had proven incompetent, the extended family had swarmed like leeches. If she hadn't flipped the board, she wouldn't be standing where she was today.

Jane stood up. "This should be enough leverage to shut those old fools up."

The board members. They hadn't respected Yardley, let alone Starla, who had just stepped into power.

"Why are you helping me?" Starla asked.

"If I didn't, little Romy would have driven me insane. I don't know what kind of spell you put on that girl, but she's suddenly developed a taste for playing the hero." To Jane, Romy had always been someone who minded her own business, taking on mercenary jobs around the Cyrus Sea. But since she started working for Starla, this wasn't the first time she had sought Jane's help on her boss's behalf.

Starla was taken aback. She had assumed Jane was doing this because of her upcoming marriage to Yardley. But considering the hostility between the siblings, helping her would actively sabotage him.

"So, are you and Yardley still..." Starla let the question hang, wondering if the wedding was even on the table anymore.
